SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 30 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo de La Gomera, due to the situation of zero energy that affects the island since last morning, has transferred to all affected users the recommendation to disconnect electrical appliances from the network to avoid problems and damage to them until they are restore electrical service.

The Island Corporation has also reported that work and tests are being carried out to restore the service that could affect these devices and that the population is also asked to make moderate use of water due to the inoperability of the polls that supply water. drinking water to the headwater tanks.

The energy zero, which has meant that more than 15,000 users of the network -the entire island- have no electricity service, originated at 02:43 a.m., when it occurred at the El Palmar Power Plant, in San Sebastián, a fire that has affected seven of the nine generating sets of the Endesa electricity supply generating plant, which supplies energy to the entire island.

The Cabildo de La Gomera has conveyed to Endesa the urgency of restoring electricity service, has made all available technical means available to the supply company and has forwarded information to the town halls on the situation that has caused the lack of supply. Meanwhile, the essential public services -hospital, port and airport- continue to present their services normally, thanks to the provision of auxiliary resources.

According to the data provided by the supply company and detailed by the president of the Cabildo, Casimiro Curbelo, the first generator sets are already on the island to be able to start the restoration of energy, whose complexity of operations indicates that until late in the afternoon it will not be possible to start the recovery of a minimum power supply.

He specified that of the nine auxiliary equipment of the power plant, six have burned down. Now priority will be given to the recovery of telecommunications and gradually to the general service, without there being an exact estimate for the full recovery of the insular distribution system.

For its part, the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Energy, is working on the transfer of eight generator sets to restore the electricity supply in La Gomera and has also urged Endesa to clarify the causes of the fire. that has caused the energetic zero.

The causes of the fire that caused the interruption of supply throughout the island are still unknown, but the Executive urges Endesa, the company responsible for the plant, to take all necessary measures not only to clarify what happened, but to restore the service as soon as possible.

Thus, Endesa, the Cabildo de La Gomera and the Government of the Canary Islands, under the coordination of the Minister of Energy, Mariano Hernández Zapata, are working in a coordinated manner to be able to urgently restore supply as soon as possible, although it is not expected to be before this Monday, due to the extent of the damage. Thus, the energy company has already transferred two generators to the plant to power the transformer stations and try to restore the supply and guarantee at least the telephone service.

In addition, another three generators are being transferred from Tenerife on a Naviera Armas ship, the Volcán de Taburiente, which left the port at 08:45. To this, another three mobilized generators from Gran Canaria will be added, although at the moment it is yet to be determined when they could arrive on La Gomera.
