Among the most spectacular beaches in Tenerife are those found in the least visited places and off the beaten track. The hidden beaches have little influx of locals and tourists, so you have no excuse to visit them at least once in your life and experience the particularity of being in a unique and charming place.
We offer you a selection of six of the best hidden beaches in Tenerife, with information from Tenerife Tourism, so that you can enjoy visiting these paradises of sand and saltpeter far from the crowded urban and tourist sandbanks. Some of them are difficult to access and you have to be careful with the currents.
The best hidden beaches of Tenerife
1. El Bollullo Beach, Tenerife (La Orotava)
The Bollullo is one of the favorite beaches of Tenerife. It has a charm that captivates everyone who visits it from the first moment. Located in the municipality of La Orotava, it has black sand and volcanic rocks.
The beach, with a length of 200 meters, is ideal to disconnect any time of the year in the middle of nature. The waves are usually frequent, so it is suitable for surfing. Of course, precautions should be taken when you bathe.
Access to the beach is quite limited. You can get there on foot from Puerto de la Cruz in a 45-minute journey or from the El Bollullo restaurant (in the El Rincón area), through a stepped path that takes a few minutes.
On the beach you have several food and drink services, rental of sunbeds and umbrellas.
2. Antequera Beach (Igueste de San Andrés)
To know Antequera is to discover one of the most hidden beaches of Tenerife. You can only reach it through a path that is difficult to access or by sea. It is worth visiting so that you can enjoy the extraordinary landscape next to the cliff of the Anaga massif merging with the rock that gives its name to the beach.
The best option to get there are boat trips that depart from Santa Cruz and from the town of San Andrés. The access via the trail is quite complicated and requires a good physical condition and experience.
The beach has very fine gray sand and the ideal is to find it at low tide, since with high tide it is usually completely covered by the waves. Nudism is often practiced.
3. Almáciga Beach (Santa Cruz de Tenerife)
Almáciga falls in love with those who like surfing and wild nature. It is one of the three beaches of Taganana, a charming town that preserves its traditions almost intact. Located right under the hamlet that gives it its name, it is next to Roque de las Bodegas and Benijo, one of the most beautiful beaches in the northeast of Tenerife.
Located on the slopes of the Anaga massif, you will be able to contemplate how the rugged cliff plunges into the sea while the strong waves break against the Roques de Anaga.
Almáciga is a black sand beach of volcanic origin and you must be careful with the waves because they are usually quite strong throughout the year. It is ideal for surfing. Several surf schools from Tenerife train there.
4.Pelada Mountain Beach (Granadilla de Abona)
In the Natural Monument of Montaña Pelada you will see how it can form a volcanic cone from an underwater eruption. You will be able to tour its 1.5 square kilometers and see how the plants are used to living in communion with the environment, the psammophilous (adapted to the sandy soils of the area), the tabaibales and cardonales. They all keep a different exotic air. Let the dunes introduce you to the history they have seen for hundreds of centuries and the fluctuations of the sea level during the slow passage of time.
To get to Montaña Pelada you must access the TF-1, and turn off at the San Isidro exit, taking the TF-64 road in the direction of Médano. Driving along this road without turning off, you will arrive at the town of Médano, and you will see how the TF-64 becomes Avenida José Miguel Galván Bello that ends at the pier. At this point you must turn left and head towards the area of La Jaquita or El Cabezo, along Avda. Juan Carlos I. At the end of the street you can park your car and enter the protected natural area on foot , crossing the ravine of La Barca.
You can also access from the other side of the mountain. To do this, you must take the exit of the Granadilla-Access B Industrial Estate and drive in the direction of ITER (Instituto Tecnológico de Energías Renovables). Several dirt tracks lead from this highway that connect with space. The dirt roads are in poor condition, so it is not recommended that you go in a vehicle that is not adapted to all types of terrain.
