SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 29 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The María Nieves Pérez Acosta Municipal Library in Los Llanos de Aridane has received the María Moliner award, an award from the Ministry of Culture and Sports that recognizes those libraries in municipalities with less than 50,000 inhabitants that carry out unique projects to encourage reading , promote library work, social integration in their community and the use of new technologies.
The mayor of Los Llanos de Aridane, Javier Llamas, has appreciated the efforts of the Municipal Library and the librarian Eugenia Cabrera Reyes to adapt to changing times and develop programs to stimulate reading and writing habits, as well as social cohesion. “Special mention of the actions to integrate the group of older people, the promotion of gender equality and support for those people who, through reading and writing, preserve our cultural and emotional memory,” said the mayor.
For her part, the Councilor for Culture, Marlene González Almeida, stressed that on more than ten occasions the Municipal Library has been recognized with the María Moliner award. “It is proof of the revitalizing work that is carried out based on the coordination of different programs that are developed in tune with the latest developments and trends in cultural and social activity generated by libraries,” said the councilor.
He also wanted to remember how since 2022 the María Nieves Pérez Acosta Municipal Library has decided to adapt to the 2030 Agenda through numerous reading clubs and activities that revolve around the SDG (Sustainable Development Goal).
The María Moliner award is celebrating its 23rd edition and more than 550 libraries have participated in this call, of which 370 have obtained the award. In addition to acknowledging the actions of the municipal library, this award grants an economic endowment of 2,772 euros for the purchase of bibliographic material.
The municipal government group has promised to continue working so that the María Nieves Pérez Acosta Library continues to evolve and consolidate itself as a space for knowledge, learning and community.
