The Governing Board of the Santa Cruz City Council will approve today the specifications with the administrative and technical clauses that will govern the contracting of the drafting of the Añaza-Acorán Maritime Sports Park project.
Almost 20 years after the ideas contest was called to bring this part of the chicharrero coastline closer to the sea, the Santa Cruz City Council commissioned the winners of that call to update that project called Pasea. According to the Consistory, 448,775 euros will be allocated for this adaptation, of which 300,000 come from a subsidy granted by the Cabildo de Tenerife. Once the order is formalized, the writers will have 18 months to deliver the updated project.
Pasea will mean a radical transformation of the Añaza coast, with a first phase in which natural pools, outdoor sports areas will be created or the already existing platform will be improved, in addition to providing the area with services. But perhaps the most striking part will be, in a second phase, the creation of a hillside park, which will extend until it connects with the Acorán urbanization.
However, to put this project into practice, the Consistory will first have to undertake the demolition of the half-finished old hotel that stands on the Añaza coast, something that is already being worked on, with the award of the project for the demolition of the building to the only company that entered the competition.
The mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, anticipates that “it is about the drafting of a project that will respond to the demand of the residents of Añaza, with renovated and attractive equipment, from which the rest of the residents of the Southwest district and of the entire municipality will also benefit, and which aims to dignify and substantially improve the bathing area in the Añaza-Acorán area, precisely with elements that can offer greater comfort and facilitate access to the sea.” In addition, he adds that, “in the same way, this initiative intends to undertake a series of reforms that allow the area of the esplanade to be cleaned up and the provision of courts that allow the practice of outdoor sports for all citizens.”
For his part, Carlos Tarife, first deputy mayor and councilor for Public Services, with delegated powers in the field of Strategic Planning, highlighted that “this initiative of the Añaza-Acorán Maritime and Sports Park is a strategic project, with the clear objective of transforming the city of Santa Cruz and allowing it to get closer to the sea”. He emphasizes that, “in addition, in this case its purpose is taken into account and it is very likely that it fits into one of the subsidies derived from the European Next Generation funds; therefore, it is the Strategic Planning area that brings this file to the Board and, from there, what we intend to achieve is to finance a very important part of the work”.
The Pasea project dates back to 2004, when the professional team made up of José David Izquierdo Hernández (team manager) and Raquel Guanche García, Raúl Guanche García and David Espejo Campos (as team members) won the ideas contest convened by the capital city council. The same team with which Urbanismo has been working to lay the foundations for updating the proposal.
This project is included in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), approved by Agreement of the Council of Ministers on April 27, 2021, which aims to implement a set of investments and reforms that face the economic crisis derived from the pandemic caused by COVID 19, and which is structured around four axes: ecological transition, digital transformation, social and territorial cohesion and gender equality.
Within this framework, the Pasea project fits in with the line of work dedicated to the Conservation and restoration of ecosystems and their biodiversity, which provides for investments aimed at the restoration of ecosystems and green infrastructure, such as the restoration of natural ecosystems and the promotion of connectivity and initiatives in urban environments aimed at greening them and bringing them closer to nature.
It is precisely in this axis that the Añaza-Acorán Maritime Park project is included, so it is not ruled out that, taking into account the object and purpose of said project, it may fit into any of the calls for subsidies derived from the PRTR.
At the moment, it already has the support of the Cabildo de Tenerife, which has included in its budgets this nominative subsidy in favor of the Santa Cruz City Council of 300,000 euros.
