SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 23 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The National Secretary General of the Canary Islands Coalition (CC) and President of the Autonomous Government, Fernando Clavijo, has highlighted the seat obtained by Cristina Valido in the Congress of Deputies and has stressed that today is an important day for the Canary Islands and for the CC, which, as he has warned, will play a decisive role for the governability of the State.
During his speech at the party headquarters, Fernando Clavijo emphasized that the Canary Islands will once again have a “voice in Madrid” thanks to Cristina Valido and has assured that nationalism “is strong” despite having witnessed a “very polarized” campaign in which, according to what he said, “they have wanted to erase us from all the media”.
Thus, he wanted to thank the bases and the militancy of Coalición Canaria, as well as the almost 85,000 voters in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the almost 20,000 in the province of Las Palmas -more than 110,000 in the Canary Islands- who have decided in these elections to cast a nationalist vote despite all the polarization.
Clavijo has stressed that the results obtained can make the role of CC for the governability of the State and for the Canary Islands play an important role, and has advanced that tomorrow, Monday, there will be a meeting of the National CC Executive in which, once the data has been assessed and while waiting to know the results of the external vote, the Organization Secretary, David Toledo, will make a much more in-depth assessment.
For her part, the elected deputy Cristina Valido highlighted having achieved that “the voice of the Canary Islands, although some do not like it, does not go out”, and also having achieved that “a woman gets up to speak, with a Canarian accent, to whoever is going to be in Moncloa” on the rostrum of Congress.
He also expressed his gratitude to all the men and women who have understood the importance of the Canarian Coalition having a presence in Congress “with an independent voice, a position of freedom and obedience only to the Canarian people.” “There have been more than 100,000 men and women who have understood what this land is at stake and how important it is to have that voice there, to negotiate, to force them to count on us and to take us into account.”
Valido meant that after a campaign with “so tremendous” polarization, practically all the parties – “historic parties of the entire Spanish State” – have fallen and the citizens have positioned themselves in blue or red. “They have made a bet on the right or the left and in this very complicated scenario, the Canaries have not failed. We are still there and we are going to be decisive without any doubt,” he said.
