The Social Action area of the Cabildo de Tenerife commitment to the transfer of approximately 300 patients from the Hospital Febles Campos to a place where they receive better benefits and services as a priority objective in the new mandate (2023-2027). The counselor, Águeda Fumero, held a meeting with the company committee of the Institute for Social and Socio-Health Care (IASS) to coordinate the actions to be developed. The appointment opens a new stage of social peace with the representatives of the workers after four years of labor conflict that led them to demonstrate every time there was a monthly plenary session in front of the Insular Palace.
The Island Council guarantees that “It will improve the quality of the public services provided by Acción Social in a consensual manner with the workers.” The councilor for the area, the popular Águeda Fumero, points out that “those from the IASS have a fundamental role in the development of social policies in Tenerife and we want to count on their experience to improve public services that are aimed at people.”
“I propose a single work table with all the agents to find a new location”
Fumero held a first contact meeting with the IASS works council. He thanked his representatives, headed by the president, José Luis Gutiérrez, “for the work and effort they make every day to care for the most vulnerable people in our society.”
In this initial contact with the workers, the Minister of Social Action announced a line of action “based on permanent collaboration”, taking into account that “the service we provide, care for the most vulnerable people in our society, is essential”.
One of the issues that all those attending the meeting valued as a “priority” was the transfer pending years ago of the around 300 patients from the Febles Campos Hospital.
“Negotiations for the new agreement will begin in the first quarter of 2024”
Águeda Fumero announced that “we will make every effort to resolve this situation as soon as possible.” For this, she proposed to convene a technical work group, with representation from the IASS and the works council, to look for “viable” alternatives. She announced that “while we find that solution, we are going to guarantee the necessary resources so that users are in the best conditions.” “The quality of the service depends on everyone’s effort, stressed the counselor, and for this reason, we are going to work in this mandate to listen actively, and seek solutions based on objective data and consensus with the workers.” To these she sent a message: “You must work in the best possible conditions to provide the best possible service.”
The workers expressed their concern about starting negotiations for a new collective agreement that the counselor confirmed that “they will begin during the first quarter of 2024.”
