SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Regional Executive Commission of the Canary Islands Socialist Party, meeting this Friday afternoon, has unanimously agreed to designate José Antonio Valbuena as a candidate for the Senate by the Autonomous Community, as announced by the general secretary of the PSOE Canarias, Ángel Víctor Torres.
It will be in the next plenary session of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, which is scheduled to be held next Tuesday, when the Socialist Parliamentary Group raises the proposal to the Plenary Session that will have to designate the three senators for the Autonomous Community that correspond to the Canary Islands.
In statements to the media, Ángel Víctor Torres recalled that José Antonio Valbuena has been counselor for Ecological Transition, the Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands and a public official in different administrations, including the Cabildo de Tenerife.
Torres stressed that José Antonio Valbuena has done a “magnificent job” during these years in the positions he has held, which is why his designation as a candidate has been unanimous, and in the same way he wanted to recognize the work that Santiago Pérez and the rest of the senators of the Canary Islands PSOE have done in the Upper House.
The general secretary acknowledged that, in addition to José Antonio Valbuena, there were other names on the table who aspired to represent the PSOE, “women and men from the different islands”, because, in his opinion, “we have a great pool of people with experience in the Socialist Party who could apply for that position of senator”. However, he clarified that it is not a primary and that the appointment of Valbuena arises from a proposal that the General Secretariat submits to the Executive Commission according to various criteria and that went ahead unanimously.
Ángel Víctor Torres wanted to recall that José Antonio Valbuena was already a senator at the time he called him to join the Government of the Canary Islands, and stressed that “he had no doubts about giving up something that was absolutely certain to come and collaborate, lend a hand and do a job that has been excellent”.
Along these lines, he also stressed that Valbuena “will forever be the father of the Law against Climate Change and the Law on Biodiversity and has been a person who has brought ethical, moral and social criteria to work such as the preservation of the planet, recognized even by other political organizations”, for which, in his opinion, it has been a “magnificent choice”, since he is “a clean, honest and honest man”.
On the other hand, the Regional Executive Commission, meeting in extraordinary session, has also agreed to call the Regional Committee on September 16.
