SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife and the Association of Farmers and Ranchers of the Canary Islands (Asaga) have agreed to work together with the objective of “facing a common strategy to respond to the needs of the primary sector”.

This was stated by Vice President Lope Afonso during the meeting he recently held with the general secretary of Asaga and the directors Theo Hernando and Herny Sicilia, respectively, which was also attended by the directors of Industry and Primary Sector, Manuel Fernández and Valentín González.

During the meeting, the will of the Cabildo was revealed to “establish a line of work based on permanent contact between the administration and the members of the primary sector so that, from consensus and dialogue, concrete, measurable and effective objectives can be achieved that serve to provide an agile solution to the problem that most worries Tenerife producers”.

With this objective, they agreed to establish a permanent dialogue table between the Cabildo and Asaga, with the purpose of establishing an agenda of meetings in which information from the sector is dynamically updated, details the corporation in a note.

Lope Afonso vindicated the role of the primary sector in the economy of Tenerife and assured that fostering its strengthening “is essential for an activity with such an important scope as that of food production”, insisting on the idea of ”promoting the professionalization of production, as a guarantee of quality for the consumer and for the producers themselves”.

The Asaga representatives conveyed to the island councilors their claims regarding livestock, slurry treatment, the situation of the potato harvest or the need to guarantee quality water for agricultural use, among other issues, as well as the defense and promotion of the local product or the need to streamline procedures within the administration.
