SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Sumar’s No. 2 candidate for the Congress of Deputies for Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Carmen Pestano, has claimed the need to “continue defending women’s rights” and called on them to vote next Sunday “to continue increasing the achievements we have to date on gender equality”.
Carmen Pestano explained that the last debate at the state level took place last night before the General Elections and, according to what she said, “we verified again how the most reactionary sectors of this country continue to deny gender violence”; She added that “hoaxes were launched such as ‘if a man perceives himself to be a female gender and hits his wife, that law does not protect the woman from him’, said verbatim by the Vox candidate.”
“Faced with this shadow of social setback,” Pestano commented, “we want to call on all women in this country to go to the polls en masse this Sunday and prevent the rights for which we have had to fight so hard to be curtailed. “.
For this reason, Pestano continued, “from next 23J we will work not only for a country free of sexist violence, but also for a country whose social, economic and political structures respond to the change of perspective proposed by feminism.”
In this sense, from Sumar they propose issues such as continuing to reduce the wage gap or address job insecurity in feminized sectors such as house cleaners, as well as promoting equality education in the classroom or support for single-parent families.
