Bad sea conditions prevented the planned embarkation of the Virgen del Carmen along the Candelaria coast, although the image, accompanied by the parish priest of Santa Ana, Dailos José Melo González, fishermen and porters, boarded the El Marino boat where it was sung a Hail Mary without leaving the fishing pier and before leaving in procession.
Previously, in the Cueva del Talán, the rosary was said and the wreath was made by the chief patron of the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria Fishermen’s Association, Víctor Díaz, and the first deputy mayor, Jorge Baute, in addition to the interpretation of the Song of the Fisherman by Fran Hernández. Once the acts were finished, the flowers were distributed and the attendees accompanied the Virgin to the pier, throwing flowers into the sea in memory of the deceased fishermen.
Once the symbolic shipment was completed, the Virgen del Carmen on the shoulders of the porters walked the way back to the Parish of Santa Ana along the carpets of El Pozo street, accompanied by the faithful and the Las Candelas Band, directed by Mauro Fariña . After 10:30 p.m., the image arrived at the Parish of Santa Ana and a festival began with the Zona 7 orchestra.
On the other hand, Puerto de Santiago turned again, one more year, with the festival of the Virgen del Carmen. The day began with mass and a procession, in which numerous residents participated.
During his journey to the dock, there was no shortage of songs and flowers, many of them thrown from the balconies. After boarding, the maritime procession passed through Los Gigantes, Alcalá, Fonsalía, Playa de San Juan and Playa de La Arena.
