The mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, in the company of the Councilor for Works and Infrastructures, and the mayor of Public Services, Carlos Tarife, met this afternoon with residents and merchants of La Rosa street, with the presence of municipal technicians and of the company contracting the action, to announce “the start next Monday of Phase 1 of the works that will be carried out on this road, which will allow us to take the first step in the recovery and transformation of the El Toscal neighborhood and will convert this street in a commercial artery, more accessible and with wider sidewalks”, according to the mayor.
Bermúdez explained at the meeting that “this important execution will be carried out in sections or phases, up to a total of eight, which will not coincide in time and will be carried out in the direction of traffic, that is, starting from Almeida.”
In addition, he added that “this Phase 1 that begins next Monday, with an approximate duration of four months, includes the section between the San Isidro road and the Segundo Ravina Passage, as well as the intersections with El Saludo and Gaspar Fernández streets, and the next phase will not begin until this one is finished, except for minor details that can be finished off without affecting traffic”.
Carlos Tarife, first deputy mayor and head of Public Services, valued “the transformative capacity of this action, which, in addition to being the first step to remodel and modernize the unique neighborhood of El Toscal, will allow residents who have not yet have some basic municipal services can be incorporated into them”. Likewise, he argued that this, “without a doubt, will promote an increase in their quality of life and extend public services to all residents.”
For his part, Javier Rivero admitted that “a work of this magnitude is going to generate inconveniences; For this reason, it has been divided into eight work areas, to minimize the impact on the sections in which work is being done” and advanced that “it must be taken into account that this action will transform and modernize La Rosa and will, in turn, enable the opportunity for neighbors who are not connected to the sanitation network to do so”.
On the other hand, the technicians explained to residents of the area that more than thirty car parks and an information telephone for neighbors and merchants will be enabled, in order to constantly maintain communication with each of the areas where they go. acting precisely to solve, directly, the incidents that may occur in a work of this magnitude.
At the same time, it was reported that the City Council is studying various alternatives to generate parking spaces in the medium and long term in the area.
The Corporation, on the occasion of the closure of this section, has arranged as an alternative vehicle route to access the area open to traffic on La Rosa street, the access through San Isidro, San Miguel, San Martín and up to La Rosa, and, from there, to your destination. And at the meeting the residents were reminded that this work that will transform and modernize La Rosa will also have the opportunity for the neighbors who are not connected to the municipal sanitation network to do so.

On the other hand, the residents proposed that the vegetation that accompanies the remodeling and rehabilitation of this main artery of Santa Cruz does not suppose, due to its size and thickness, a difficulty for the houses of the street, a suggestion that the City Council picked up with the purpose to include it and, furthermore, contemplate it to guarantee that the choice of these elements is attractive and not a difficulty, both for residents and for pedestrians.
In yesterday’s meeting with the neighbors and merchants, the mayor wanted to make it clear that “it will be a work in which they will have permanent communication, in addition to the contract, with the municipal staff, to resolve incidents and doubts that may be generated”.
Likewise, he argued that “I want you to think about Imeldo Serís, who, although it is not exactly the same project, does want a similar effect, a more comfortable street and the enhancement of homes and commercial premises.” The work will widen the sidewalks and remove most of the parking lots, as well as renew all the supply facilities.
Finally, it was recalled that the cost of the project represents an investment of 4,385,000 euros, of which the subsidy granted by the European Next Generation funds (within the Low Emission Zone-ZBE call) represents a contribution of 1,719. €156.20.
It was also recalled that, after the completion of this work, the LEZ will be implemented, which will give residents priority parking.
