SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 11 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The candidate proposed by the regional Chamber to preside over the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo (CC), has asked the acting president, Ángel Víctor Torres, during the plenary session of the investiture debate, to let the public “judge the work” of the new Executive. “Let us govern. They have not let us arrive. They have given us -30 days. Have a little faith,” Clavijo demanded of the now opposition leader.

In response to Ángel Víctor Torres, the nationalist candidate asked him for one hundred days “to start managing because it is difficult to justify politics when something has not even started and is already being criticized.” And he also reminded him that this is “an investiture debate and there is no accountability”, adding that this “has already been done in the electoral campaign” and the Government of the Pact of Flowers “lost six deputies and the alternative won four”. .

Clavijo also pointed out that it was not in the spirit of his inauguration speech to “talk about the benefits” of the Government headed by Ángel Víctor Torres or justify the data, but to put on the table what are the commitments, philosophy and principles that They will guide the new Government of the Canary Islands.

Regarding Torres’s references to La Palma, he maintained that the outgoing government has ended up “believing its own lies” and “you just have to see what the island’s citizens have told them in the elections.” “It did not live up to it, neither by the Government of the Canary Islands nor by the Government of Spain, and speaking a year later of emergency solutions is a bit insulting for the citizens of La Palma,” said the candidate.

Fernando Clavijo has admitted that resolving the situation experienced by palm trees after the volcanic eruption is “a very difficult problem” and assured that if the PSOE reaches out to the new Government of the Canary Islands to help “we will take it, we will not reject it as [Torres] did with us.”

In terms of employment, Clavijo wanted to recall that when he was president between 2015 and 2019 they produced a balance of more than 45,000 new workers, compared to the 27,000 that the Government of Ángel Víctor Torres has made possible “by changing the rules of the game”, since four years ago temporary or permanent discontinuous years were not counted in the official data and now they do appear as workers.

Regarding the criticism of the increase in councils, he said that this sounds “a bit cynical” when the “largest” Government of Spain has 23 ministries and added that it is complying with the commitments acquired in the electoral campaign, one of them signed by the PSOE in 2022 and which led to the creation of the Ministry of Universities. “We are doing what you agreed to,” Clavijo said.

COMPLY WITH THE TAX REDUCTION.

On the other hand, Fernando Clavijo assured that the new Government is going to comply with the tax cut, as it did four years ago, providing “such important data” on issues such as health management, in which the Government of the Pact de las Flores “has not been an example”. In addition, he guaranteed that he will not jeopardize public prices because “we firmly believe that public services have to be efficient enough so that citizens do not have to go to private ones.”

In relation to the fact that he has not cited the dependency figures achieved by the current government, Clavijo indicated that the citizens have been “forceful” in their response to his management, as he recalled that the one who has been responsible for the area of Social Rights during the last four years old, Noemí Santana, failed to enter the autonomous Chamber. And in turn, he regretted that Ángel Víctor Torres comes to Parliament “to show off the low cost dependency.”

In terms of housing, he warned that the problem cannot be solved by approving a plan and building fifteen houses, and regarding Torres’s allusions to immigration, he reproached him for asking for “high vision” when the PSOE general secretary and presidential candidate of the Government “is dispatched in a program saying that ‘our route, that of the Mediterranean, has closed”. “Honestly, that allusion has not been fortunate,” said Clavijo.

And regarding the Electoral Law, he also reminded Ángel Víctor Torres that his party supported his reform in 2018 and ratified it in 2020, for which he considered that questioning the current system “denotes a certain evil of losing and not accepting adversity well.” He also alluded to the pacts signed by CC and pointed out that in the last legislature pacts were articulated, sometimes with motions of censure, to evict the Coalition and “that is not why we question the rules of the game.”
