The Gomero spokesman rejects the regional electoral list and says that a new reform of the system puts the territorial balance at risk
SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The spokesman for the Gomera Socialist Association (ASG), Casimiro Curbelo, said this Wednesday that his group’s support for the investiture of Fernando Clavijo as president of the Canary Islands “is not a blank check” but a “vote of hope” for ” cooperate” in the transformation of the archipelago.
On the second day of the investiture plenary session, he called it “reasonable” for the IGIC to drop “stable” and perhaps “not in one fell swoop”, and he does not understand the nervousness of the opposition because it will be the economy that “determines” the drop impact.
It has also valued the announcement of a 99% discount on inheritance and donation tax, the elimination of the fuel tax on the ‘green islands’ and the drop in the IGIC, which will force them to “talk” with councils and town halls to cover the decrease in collection.
Curbelo has defended the “permanent dialogue” with the new Executive and an alliance that “is not about people or dog loyalties but about the interest of the people and loyalty to the voters.”
Along these lines, he has commented that they are not going to “let down” the canaries in the face of the “challenges” that lie ahead in a context of a reduction in European funds and a return to “fiscal discipline” after the relaxation of the pandemic.
He has vindicated ASG as a parliamentary group from a non-capital island that is going to “help build the Canary Islands” and has taken the opportunity to “look to the future” and not take stock of the past since there are “many challenges” ahead, such as reinforcing services public, defend the REF and the Statute and better redistribute wealth.
He has commented that it is “essential” to plan development and reform the public system to improve its efficiency and protect the “most vulnerable” and has stressed that he supports the CC-PP-AHI pact for the “same reasons” as the previous one, ” people know it”, and includes respect for the plans agreed in the last legislature and the development of the ‘Gomera 36’ strategy.
Curbelo has indicated that his party understands the power to “respond” to the needs of the people and also of the territories and has valued the “honesty and capacity for dialogue” of both Fernando Clavijo and Ángel Víctor Torres, his latest partners.
He has valued the commitment of the Government of Clavijo for the Fdcan and that of the ‘Pact of Flowers’ for the development of the ‘green islands’, although he has been self-critical because the nucleus of poverty in the archipelago “remains intact”.
The Gomeran leader has warned that the “structural deficits” have not been corrected and that demographic growth forces more services and infrastructure to be built, especially in the two Canary capitals. “It is the perverse circle”, he has underlined himself.
It has also had an impact on the large increase in public personnel and the “centralization” of services in Tenerife and Gran Canaria, which causes derived problems such as traffic “jams” or difficulties in accessing housing.
Curbelo has pointed out that modifying the electoral system puts “territorial balances” at risk, has opposed the regional list and has made it clear that winning the elections “does not imply governing” since there will never be an absolute majority in the Canary Islands. “We have to get used to this therapy,” he said.
He has indicated that the regional list was proposed by the PSOE and ASG voted against it because it implied more spending due to the increase in deputies -in fact they proposed 55 deputies- but finally went ahead to reform the Statute.
LOYALTY WITH COUNCILS AND MUNICIPALITIES
He has also shown his desire that the government’s relationship with councils and town halls should be “loyal” and that services, communications and planning be understood as “State policy.”
Curbelo has called for measures of “greater depth” and “commitment” to promote the development of the peripheral islands, with special emphasis on La Palma, stressing that “it is not easy” to end the “structural poverty” of the archipelago if there are no “jobs and decent jobs.
In this sense, he has appealed to reform the regional financing system based on “solidarity” because in the case of the Canary Islands, the services are “badly financed” and do not take into account all the “extra costs” of the Canary Islands.
He has appealed to defend the REF and the Statute and that there is no “interference” in their compliance, he has asked the EU to get involved in resolving the migration crisis with a “community response” and humanitarian.
Regarding the environment, he highlighted the commitment of the Cabildo de La Gomera to the ‘Gomera 36’ strategy, an “example of planning” that advocates extrapolating to the rest of the Canary Islands so that economic development is sustainable and digital.
Curbelo also supports tourism development because it “pulls” the entire economy but has warned that “a single engine” is not worth it and new productive sectors such as culture, sports, industry or the primary sector are needed.
THE CANARY ISLANDS, “PERFECT SCENARIO” FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF RENEWABLES
He pointed out that the Canary Islands are the “perfect scenario” to experiment with renewable energies and export their knowledge to African countries and in a context of recovery of “fiscal discipline” and reduction of European funds.
For this reason, he expects the economy to grow “healthily” in order to continue maintaining services.
The ASG spokesman has also called the processing times of the administrations “intolerable”, has assumed that the “necessary results” in health have not been achieved and understands that they cannot “resign themselves” to the fact that the public system works worse than the private.
However, he has admitted that there is “aberrant absenteeism” and “preventive distrust” in those administered, for which reason he has called for a new system that rewards those who work the hardest.
Curbelo has stressed that the new quadripartite will have to work to build more public housing, social health centers, shorten the health waiting list or develop citizen income, at which time he has reflected on the fact that Podemos has not obtained any deputy despite to manage the Ministry of Social Rights.
