SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 11 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife has prohibited making fires in the mountains on Tuesday, taking into account the weather circumstances and the declaration of a fire risk alert decreed by the Government of the Canary Islands on the island.

The Island Corporation has activated degree 2 measures that include the prohibition of making fires in recreational areas, camping areas and campsites, burning agricultural or forest residues and bonfires.

Likewise, work with machinery or tools is prohibited, as well as the use of elements that can generate sparks in agricultural or forest spaces, such as brushcutters and welding equipment.

Forest harvesting, hunting activities throughout the island, the circulation of motor vehicles on the network of forest tracks for recreational purposes, as well as sporting events and pilgrimages on tracks and forest trails and off-road are also prohibited.

The Minister of the Natural Environment, Blanca Pérez, wanted to remind us that we are facing a risky situation and preventive measures must be taken to guarantee people’s safety. Likewise, it has made an appeal to the population to follow the recommendations of the authorities, such as not accessing or staying in the forest areas of the island and taking extreme precautions throughout the island territory with any activity that could generate fires (tobacco, use generator sets, electrical and pyrotechnic material).
