These figures confirm the path of recovery after the pandemic, which has already been manifested in the classic indicators of travelers staying and overnight stays, as well as in the employment generated by the hotel sector. If we go to the comparison with 2022, this increase in professionals from accommodation establishments registered was 8.1% throughout the Archipelago.
Tenerife is the island with the most Social Security affiliations in accommodation, with a total of 28,326, which is 11.3% more than the same period in 2019 and 8.6% more than June 2022. Only La Palma, which is going through a major tourist crisis, after combining the effects of the pandemic with those of the recovery after the volcanic eruption, registered a decrease in its Social Security affiliates and closed June with a total of 754, which represents -6.6% compared to June 2019 and -4.3% compared to June 2022. The island also currently has 2,500 less open accommodation places compared to 2019, due to the closure of the tourist center of Puerto Naos (Los Llanos de Aridane) due to the noxious gases and other small establishments that were buried by the flows.
Accommodation services also account for 42% of all Social Security affiliations in terms of activities considered tourism. The other 58% corresponds to the rest of the activities framed under the heading of economic activities characteristic of tourism, among which are included food and beverage services, passenger transport, rental of passenger transport equipment, travel agencies or cultural services. and sports activities, among others.
