The Habaneras Festival reaches its last day today thanks to the rondallas and the lyrical-musical groups, who will make an exhibition out of competition. Las Valkirias, Rondalla Mamel’s, Masa Coral Tinerfeña, Los Fregolinos, Agrupación Lírica La Zarzuela, Peña Del Lunes 1965, Rondalla Unión Artística El Cabo and Gran Tinerfe will be on stage in the square of the church of La Concepción starting at 7:30 p.m., where the journalist Zenaido Hernández will act as master of ceremonies.
After them, the prizes of a contest that began last Friday with the competitive modality of Older Modality Groups, composed on this occasion by Santo Ángel, Montenevado, Con Nuestra Gente Chincanayro, Asociación Tercera Edad de Tegueste, Mayores Del 2000, will be announced. , Rondalla Mayores Antón Guanche and Sueños Del Teide.
Santo Ángel performed the songs De qué hablas, Habanera, and Noche de Ronda. In the case of Montenevado, the themes chosen were those of I’m going to Havana, my child, and El Calavera. The third to perform on Friday, Con Nuestra Gente Chincanayro, opted for Asturian Habanera La Capitana, and Adiós Valbanera. The elders of Tegueste performed Maspalomas and you, and Farola del Mar. Mayores del 2000 participated with Marinero, and Cuando salí de Cuba. Antón Guanche did the same with Regresaré (unpublished song) and Bitxintxo. And Sueño del Teide closed the night with La caña dulce, and Aguadora de Santa Cruz.
Saturday night
The Free Groups competed last night, before a large influx of public, who wanted to enjoy a different evening. Starting at eight in the afternoon, and in this order, the following participated: Old Havana, Chincho Son 23, Dulce Caña de La Habana, Valbanera, Canticorum Jubilo and Parranda Nijota.
Old Havana opened the contest with Venice without you, and Si te viera Garay. Next it was the turn for Chincho Son 23 who interpreted Mía y Silbo. (unreleased song). The third to perform, Dulce Caña from Havana, presented La bella cubana and Aquella tarde. Valbanera opted for the themes María Dolores and Ojos de España. Canticorum Jubilo performed Son de La Loma and Veinte años. The night was closed by Parranda Nijota, who performed La barca de Guyamás and Canarias Habanera.
The jury in charge of assessing the participating groups is made up of the president of the University Choir of La Laguna, Daniel Guillermo Hernández Hernández; the founder and former member of the Polyphonic Choir of the University of La Laguna, Juan Carlos Camacho; the lyrical singer and music teacher, Mercedes Cabrera Amador; and the tenor and professor of Chamber Music at the Conservatory of Music of the Canary Islands, Carlos Javier Méndez Suárez.
The participants in the Major and Free modalities, opt for two prizes, the first endowed with 450 euros, as well as the Prize for Best Soloist. It will also be recognized, with a single prize for both categories, for the best unpublished habanera song.
