SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 3 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The ES-Alert system will be tested on the island of El Hierro next Thursday, July 6 at 11:00 a.m., becoming the first island-wide exercise in the Canary Islands of this new tool of the National Civil Protection System.
The trial of the public notification system through mobile telephone networks, known as the ‘1-1-2 reverse’, is organized by the Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Security and Emergencies and the CECOES 1-1-2, in collaboration with the Cabildo de El Hierro.
This Civil Protection notification system will allow mobile phones to be notified by text message in cases of catastrophes or emergencies, such as fires, floods, volcanic eruptions, adverse meteorological phenomena or chemical accidents, without the need to install an application, since the system sends the notice to all telephones where the possible emergency area is located.
The exercise will take place throughout the island, with a population of law estimated at 11,000 people. Both residents and visitors will receive a message with the text ‘test’ on the mobile screen with 4G and 5G, with a beep and vibration. Once read, citizens will only have to press ‘accept’. No need to answer or call 1-1-2.
The message will be valid for 20 minutes, so the person can receive it at the time it is sent or when entering the coverage area of their telephone operator, if they were outside of it. You will only receive it once. If you are driving, do not be alarmed. Stop the vehicle in a safe place and once read press accept.

It is very important that the population receiving the message fill out the survey in order to have feedback on the exercise, the objective of the test.
