The Institute of Social and Socio-Health Care (IASS), an autonomous body dependent on the Cabildo de Tenerife will allocate 530,000 euros to cover the basic needs of women victims of sexist violence. The second vice president and acting counselor for Social Action of the Island Corporation, Marián Franquet, explains that this aid is one of the initiatives designed to favor overcoming the social consequences derived from sexist violence, preventing the consequent precariousness.
The Cabildo launches this individual helpline for women victims of gender violencewith the aim of covering their basic needs and alleviating the situation of social vulnerability that often derives from the situation of abuse.
The Institute’s Gender Violence Unit will allocate more than 530,000 euros with which the dependents under their care will also benefit indirectly. Marián Franquet explains that “with this grant we intend to be a support for women victims of gender violence and survivors during their recovery.” He recalls that its creation is part of the measures implemented by the Island Corporation to favor overcoming the social consequences derived from gender violence, preventing the precariousness of these women.
“Encouraging these women to build a new life autonomously is one of the most important steps to take within the often traumatic process that they are going through,” says counselor Franquet, who recalls that many of them have also been victims, of one economic violence that leaves them in a situation of social vulnerability risk. In addition to women victims of gender violence, other people who are affected by an attempted femicide may benefit from this aid, such as the dependent daughters and sons of the murdered woman, the people who assume guardianship of the victim’s children , those whose parents have been murdered by vicarious violence or the people who assume the care of women who suffer disability due to an attempted femicide.
