The Route of the Tapa by Saint Benedict Abbot returns this July to La Laguna, consolidating itself as one of the most anticipated events with the gastronomy and tradition of the municipality. In its fifteenth edition, there are 41 establishments dedicated to restoration that participate in this route offering their culinary proposals. The event is held from July 1 to 31 and the tapas will have a single price of four euros, which also includes drinks -water, beer or wine-.
The initiative is organized by the La Laguna Commercial Zone Business Association (LLZC), with the collaboration of the La Laguna City Council, through its Commerce area, and the Federation of Urban Areas of the Canary Islands (Fauca). Tascas, restaurants and cafeterias in the city will have the opportunity to offer their customers some tapas in which they can combine the tradition of their gastronomy with innovation and creativity. Some customers who, in addition, will have the chance to win prizes through the web application https://app.lalagunazonacomercial.com, through which citizens will be able to consult all the information about the businesses participating in the route, as well as carry out their votes to choose the tapa that they like the most and this will give them the option to participate in the draw for three gift vouchers worth 100 euros each, which they can exchange in the three winning establishments of this edition.
The objective is to make available to the public an attractive gastronomic offer that generates an influx of visitors to the Open Commercial Zone of the city. It is about giving participating businesses greater visibility, promoting consumption and, likewise, with the incentive that it supposes for customers to be able to make the route through the restaurant establishments, acting as a “popular jury” when awarding prizes to the best cap in three categories: gold cap, silver cap and bronze cap.
The Councilor for Commerce, Leticia Villegas, assured that “from the Government group we are going to continue betting on a sector that is strategic, that generates jobs, that offers great quality in its local products, and has a differentiated treatment” .
For his part, Abbas Moujir stressed “the importance of this initiative, which contributes not only to making La Laguna’s differentiated and excellent gastronomic offer visible, but also links it to the most deeply rooted cultural tradition of the municipality, such as the celebration of the festivities of San Benito Abad”.
The Tapa Route through San Benito Abad 2023, endorsed by entities such as Interreg or City Plus, has taken “a qualitative leap, becoming a benchmark as a project that crosses our borders, in regions such as Cape Verde or the Azores, constituting, therefore, Therefore, in a model of good practices as an activity to be developed in other regions of Macaronesia”, stated the president of Fauca.
The president of LLZC, Iván Pérez, highlighted the work that is being carried out by this business association to “place La Laguna in the epicenter of gastronomy and commerce in the Archipelago, designing both specific projects that adapt to the needs and demands of every moment, like others that, as is the case with the Ruta de la Tapa through San Benito Abad, which in its fourteen editions has been reaping successes year after year, are consolidated as unavoidable events in the leisure agenda of the citizenry ” .
José Manuel Ramos reads today the proclamation of the festivities of San Benito Abad
The festivities of San Benito Abad 2023 officially start today with the reading of the proclamation, by the musician and folklorist José Manuel Ramos. The event, which will be chaired by the mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, will be held in the hermitage of San Benito Abad, and will begin at 7:00 p.m. At the end, José Manuel Ramos himself will interpret various musical themes together with his group.
The reading of the proclamation marks the official beginning of some festivities that resume normally after two years and that will last until July 16.
An extensive program will take place in these weeks, with long-awaited events such as the Magicians’ Ball on July 7, for which all the tables have already been sold. Some festivities that will have their culminating moment on Sunday the 9th, when the traditional Regional Pilgrimage of San Benito will be held.
