The Fiestas del Carmen de Los Realejos offer 70 events from July 1 to August 2

The Festivities of Carmen de Los Realejos they want to turn the page and return to normality after the Covid-19 pandemic notably altered their program of events in 2020 and 2021, and a large forest fire also marked part of the agenda in July 2022. These festivities will presented this Thursday, June 29 with the aim of recovering all the usual activity until 2019 and offering about 70 religious, cultural, festive, sports, gastronomic and leisure events from this Saturday, July 1, to Wednesday, August 2.

Everything will begin this Saturday, July 1, with the symbolic hoisting of the festive flag on the façade of the Santuario del Carmen de The Realejos at 7:00 p.m. From that moment on, events will take place with key dates for the royal festive calendar, such as the four processions of the Virgen del Carmen on July 16, 22, 30 and 31. The one on Sunday 16, onomastic of the Virgin, will visit Realejo Bajo and La Cascabela; the traditional procession to core of the race It is brought forward to Saturday 22 due to the general elections called for Sunday 23 July. The Octava del Carmen, with the popular procession of the sailors of Puerto de la Cruz, will be on Sunday 30. On the 31st, on Carmen Monday, which will be a local holiday, the offering of the baton of Los Realejos from the hands of its mayor, Adolfo González (PP)to the revered image, which since 1985 is the Honorary and Perpetual Mayor of the Villa.

The Councilor for Fiestas, Isabel Socorro (PP)showed his confidence that finally in 2023 “it will be possible to see the Virgin of Carmen in its four outings and celebrate it as we were used to, a situation that has not been possible since the 2019 edition.

In addition, there will be numerous concerts, children’s activities, performances, conferences, charity events, exhibitions, guided tours, radio broadcasts, open-air cinema, sports events or festivals such as Tigaray, on August 1. Other important dates will be next Wednesday, July 5, when the Virgen del Carmen comes down from her dressing room to preside over the altar until his return to the usual location on August 2. The proclamation, by the realejero musician Carmelo Hernández, on July 7 at 9:30 p.m. in the Plaza de San Agustín; the Miss World Tenerife and Mister International Tenerife Election Gala, scheduled for the 14th; the galas for the election of the Queen and the Princess of the Sea will be, for the children’s category, on the 27th, and for the adult category, on the 28th, and on the 29th the IX Gastronomic Show of the Papa Bonita de Los Realejos will be held.

The day of July 16 commemorates the festival of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, a date marked on the calendar as her name day, so from 11:55 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, the bells will ring announcing this commemoration from the Sanctuary, with the opening of the temple and nocturnal musical salutation. The Eucharistic celebrations on Sunday the 16th will be at 12:00 noon and 6:00 pm, prior to the procession to Realejo Bajo and La Cascabela.
