It is forbidden to make fire outdoors and use pyrotechnic material in Tenerife due to the heat alert

The acting president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Peter Martinreports that is activated from 7:00 a.m. on this Tuesday, June 27, grade 1 measures for the prevention of fires forestry, taking into account the meteorological circumstances and the declaration of alert decreed by the Government of the Canary Islands on the island of Tenerife.

Specific, outdoor fire is prohibitedwhether they are barbecues, bonfires, gas stoves, etc; The use of any type of machinery or tool that can project sparks is suspended (brushcutters, welding or radial cutting equipment) and prohibits the use of any pyrotechnic material in risk areas.

The Cabildo also recommends Do not access or remain in the forested areas of the island for the duration of the alert and extreme precautions throughout the island territory with any activity that may cause fires (tobacco, use of generators, electrical and pyrotechnic equipment, etc.).

The restrictions corresponding to degree 1 of forest fire prevention will remain active until the alert situation ends.

Prohibitions in the mountains throughout the year

  • Do not throw or leave waste, you have to take it to the nearest container.

  • Camp only in the indicated places and with prior authorization.

  • Light a fire only in authorized areas -provided with stoves- and at authorized times. And make sure it’s turned off before you leave.

  • Do not throw cigarette butts or lighted matches to the ground on any surface or from vehicles.

Recommendations before a fire

  • In the event of a forest fire, you must collaborate with whoever coordinates the emergency.

  • Do not go up the mountain to collaborate in the extinction work. These should be left to specialists and professionals. If you want to collaborate, contact your town hall, which will indicate other support tasks to be carried out.

  • When a fire breaks out, access to the area is prevented for security reasons to prevent the collapse of roads and to facilitate access to firefighting equipment.

  • If your house is close to the fire, it will be necessary to evacuate it as soon as indicated by the security forces.
