The crew dthe Varadero Maritime Club of Gran Canaria integrated by Cristina Martínez (patron), Elena Barambio and Raquel Ortiz from Zarate has been declared the winner of the 2nd Equality Regatta, organized this weekend by the Royal Canarian Sailing Federation in the bay of The Gran Canarian palms.
The victory gives the team led by Martínez the place to rrepresent the Canary Islands in the Women’s Regatta – Spanish Championship for Autonomiesorganized by the Royal Galician Sailing Federation between September 8 and 10 in Villagarcía de Arosa.
The Club Marítimo Varadero team has dominated the regatta from start to finish, with 12 first and 2 seconds out of a total of 18 races.
The second edition of The Canarian Equality Regatta has completed the scheduled program (12 sleeves on Saturday and 6 on Sunday), thanks to a stable medium-intensity wind that has provided two splendid days of sailing for a fleet made up of 6 Ideal Class 18 boats, manned by female sailors of different generations.
The second place on the podium is for the crew led by the Olympic sailor Mimi González Muñoz, from the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canariawho thus goes back to the third position with which he finished on Saturday
González, -who sailed with Aida García Tunón and Eugenia Cantero on Saturday, and on Sunday with Aida and Irene Ortega-, he went out into the water with great force: A first and four seconds were his best partials in this last day of the regatta.
In third position, the team led by América Cabrera, also from the Varadero Maritime Club. Cabrera, who formed a crew with Bianca Castellano and Ariadna Suarezends with 49 points, only 8 behind the silver medals.
The Councilor for Sports of the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Carla Campoamor, the president of the Royal Galician Sailing Federation, Manuel Villaverde, and the president of the Royal Canarian Sailing Federation, Rafael Bonilla, Together with representatives of the clubs that have competed in the regatta, they have participated in the awarding of trophies, held this Sunday at the Centro Canario de Vela Manuel Pazos Díaz.
