Civil Guard agents belonging to the Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group (GREIM) carried out the rescue of a person who was participating in an emergency drill on Mount Teide at an altitude of 3,200 metres.
This person presented symptoms of altitude sickness, for which reason it was necessary to evacuate him by helicopter to the base of the Teide cable car, where he was assisted by the displaced health services.
The Civil Guard highlighted in a statement the “complexity and risk” of the rescue operation, given the height at which the affected person and the means were, and the terrain in which they had to maneuver.
