The Cabildo de Tenerife, through Social Action, Citizen Participation and Diversity, has started a campaign on Zero Energy Poverty to raise awareness, inform and advise families and people in vulnerable situations on the island on how to save on energy consumption In the home.
The project, promoted by Tenerife Isla Solidaria, dependent on Sinpromi, will be carried out through an agreement through the Association for the Improvement of the Environment and the Transition to Renewable Energies (Asmaer).
The campaign will take place from July to December of this year and is aimed at volunteer entities attached to the Tenerife Isla Solidaria program dedicated mainly to the distribution of food.
The acting CEO of Equality and Prevention of Gender Violence, Priscila de León, announced that the project wants to get closer to the most vulnerable people through the voluntary organizations that serve them, in order to help them prevent poverty. energy and give them tools that allow them to address it. “To promote more efficient, non-polluting and accessible energy management,” she said.
The island manager explained that the collaboration of the associative fabric will be counted on, to more directly detect individuals and families who are in a situation of energy poverty. In this first edition, it will be possible to reach about 150 families in vulnerable situations.
Among other actions, informative talks and workshops on energy efficiency and consumption habits will be given, with specific activities on the efficient use of electrical appliances, how to save when cooking, hot water consumption, how to use lighting to reduce electricity bills, prevent the energy that is lost in the home through windows, doors, humidity, among other contents. In addition, information spaces will be included to teach families to read and understand the electricity bill.
Its execution will be carried out in several phases: preliminary study and diagnosis, to know the starting situation of the participating entities and the users they serve; information and awareness talks and workshops on energy saving and alternative energy aimed at entities and volunteers, and intervention phase in homes, accompanying and monitoring families.
The campaign is linked to compliance with the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals, in terms of energy saving, sustainability and renewable energy.
