SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The short film entitled ‘SAI’, from the Manolo Blahnik Art School, in Santa Cruz de La Palma, has been designated by the jury as the winner of the grand prize of the tenth edition of the Educational Film Festival, ‘Cinedfest’, which this Wednesday held its Gala Mayor at the Multicines Tenerife in La Laguna.

‘SAI’, which addresses the hypothetical effects of the introduction of an artificial intelligence system in an educational center, is the work of 2nd year students of the Higher Degree Training Cycle in Audiovisual Graphics and has also been awarded this year the Cinedfest Special Award by the Cabildo de la Palma.

“For us it is a totally unexpected award and we are very proud of each of the participants in the short film for the great work they have done, which has allowed us to get to this point,” said a professor from EA Manolo Blahnik who added that “cinema is a clear exponent of how to work as a team”, so it is essential to promote this type of resource in the classroom.

The event, presented by the journalist Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, began at 11:00 am and lasted for almost four hours.

As for the Distribution award, it went to the short ’06:35′, directed, scripted and performed by Ingrid Saavedra Díaz, from 1st year of Baccalaureate at IES Pérez Galdós in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

This year two second prizes were also awarded in this category for ‘El duelo’, from the same institute, and for ‘Un mar de plástico’, from IES Arico (Tenerife).

On the other hand, the jury designated ‘Emigrants to nowhere’, from the IES La Aldea de San Nicolás (Gran Canaria), as the best Secondary short film and awarded the second prize to ‘Where are my friends’, from CPEIPS Luther King from La Laguna (Tenerife).

In Baccalaureate, the first prize went to ‘Saints that I painted’, from the IES San Matías, also from La Laguna, and second place went to ‘For my girlfriend, Candelaria’, from the IES Luis Cobiella Cuevas (Santa Cruz de La Palma). and in the section reserved for FP-CEPA-EOI and EASD, the winner was the César Manrique Vocational Training Center, from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which won first and second prize for short films, with ‘Maybe, sometimes ‘ and ‘Pecto’, respectively.

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

In the Diversity and Inclusion category, the winners were ‘La lío, la lío’ from the IES José María Pérez Pulido, from La Palma, which won first prize, ‘La Cueva’, from the Horizonte Association (2nd prize). , ‘Super cambio’ by Asinladi (3rd prize) and ‘Cara y Cruz’, by REE Hermano Pedro, which received a special mention.

The Social Cinema Award was won by the IES Costa Teguise, from Lanzarote, for ‘What if it happened here?’, while the IES La Aldea de San Nicolás (Gran Canaria) was distinguished with the Senior Citizens Award, for ‘Your blood’ and the History of the Canary Islands Award, for the short film ‘Emigrants to nowhere’, the latter delivered by the former Councilor for Education and Youth of the La Laguna City Council, Juan José Gavilán Barreto.

In turn, the Government of the Canary Islands awards for the protection of the environment and the prevention of gender violence went to ‘Un mar de plástico’, from IES Arico and ‘Su reloj de arena’, from IES Punta Larga (Candelaria). , respectively, who received their awards from the General Director of Planning, Innovation and Quality of the Ministry of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports, Gregorio José Cabrera Déniz.

The best documentaries this year were ‘Ahó’, from IES Arico, in the Secondary category, ‘Silenced Reality’, from IES La Oliva (High School) and ‘Tertulias del macramé’, by EA Pancho Lasso from Arrecife (FP-CEPA -EOI-EASD) and the Animation prize was received by EASD students Fernándo Estévez, from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, for ‘Worth it?’.

The Cinedfest directors, David Cánovas and Antonio Hernández, presented the Teaching Award to Julia Rivas Castellano, from IES Agustín Espinosa (Arrecife), in recognition of her great work, since she participated in the coordination of the nine short films presented this year by its center.

EDUCATIONAL CENTER AWARD

Meanwhile, once again Gregorio José Cabrera Déniz, representing the Regional Education Council, did the same with this edition’s Educational Center Award, which went to the IES La Aldea de San Nicolás (Gran Canaria).

In the same way, the vice-rector for Culture and University Extension of the University of La Laguna (ULL), Isabel León Pérez, distributed the trophies corresponding to the University and Film Schools section, in which the first prize of the jury and that of the The popular vote went to ‘Monito’, from the Escuela Superior de Cine y Audiovisuales de Catalunya (ESCAC) and ‘En el olvido’, from the ULL, received a special mention.

This year’s Tenerife Council Special Award was won by ‘El nido del Toucan’, made by the students of 1st ESO and the Learning and Performance Improvement Program (PMAR) of the IES Sabino Berthelot (El Sauzal), directed by by Youssouf Sakhanokho, the script by Johan Antonio Casanova Socas and Cinthya Padrón León and the coordination of Professor Nayra Luis Ravelo.

Likewise, the International Prize went to the National Autonomous University of Mexico for the work entitled ‘Threshold’.

Many of the teachers who took part in the award ceremony took advantage of the occasion to claim the importance of subjects related to the audiovisual field or any type of artistic and cultural expression, which are losing time load or disappearing from the school curriculum, says a note from the organization.

Similarly, the directors of ‘Cinedfest’ highlighted the human side of this project while thanking the support of public agencies and administrations, urging them to redouble their support for future editions of this event so that it can continue to grow even more.

ISLAND GALA

Between June 14 and 16, three island galas have taken place in Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and La Palma, in which the winners of the special prizes awarded by the corresponding councils have been announced and, on Tuesday The Final Gala for Children and Primary was held, which also took place at the Multicines Tenerife.

In the end, more than 120 awards have been distributed among all the galas held in this edition

In addition to the high quality of the works presented, the tenth edition of Cinedfest has stood out for the great participation of educational centers from all over the Canary Islands, as well as fourteen other autonomous communities in Spain and, as has been customary since the beginning of the festival, This year, several Latin American countries such as Mexico, Argentina and Colombia have also been represented, which, among all of them, have managed to raise the number of short films in the competition to 560, 414 of them from the islands.

This figure represents a new record for this festival and the organization highlights that there are 739 registered teachers (606 from the Canary Islands and the rest from the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands) and 373 educational centers (231 from the islands) involved in the different processes of the production and filming of the shorts, thus exceeding the records of previous editions and the more than 5,000 students who have attended the training actions this year.
