A total of 18 months. This is the deadline to make the long-awaited illusion of the relatives of people with intellectual disabilities come true. Tenerife: have a new center for them in the area annexed to the old CAMP of La Cuesta. The Cabildo tendered yesterday the works for an amount of 8.4 million euros and 18 months expected for its execution.
The acting island president, Peter Martinhighlights that the project for the center responds to the needs of the users and recalls that before putting it out to tender an update of the prices of work was approved to be able to undertake with quality guarantees the new services and spaces that are going to be put up on going
The Institute of Social and Socio-sanitary Care (IASS), dependent on the Island Corporation, is the body that has put out to tender the works with an exact total value of 8,451,927 euros.
Pedro Martín explains that it is a highly demanded project, which responds to the needs and suggestions raised by the families of the users. In this sense, he explains thatmany fathers and mothers who care for people with intellectual disabilities They have conveyed their concern to us about what will happen when they are no longer there.
Hence the importance of the new Camp La Cuesta, located next to the old one –at number 18 Magistral Luis Pérez Reyes street in the Laguna neighborhood– to allow expansion of residential places, in addition to offering essential support to families “who seek to guarantee the care and quality of life of his family member in the future”, assesses the president. The period for submitting offers will remain open until July 19.
Mothers and fathers of users consider the center basic “for when we are no longer here”
Martín recalls that “before the tender for the project, an update of the prices of the work was approved.” Fundamental “to undertake with quality guarantees the new services and common spaces” that are going to be launched, with which “it will contribute to improving the quality of life of the users.”
The acting Minister of Social Action, Marián Franquet, points out, for her part, that “this project is part of the socio-sanitary management model that we develop from the Cabildo, centered on people, and on the need to give them comprehensive, adjusted care to their interests and demands. Franquet details that the execution contemplates a total of 50 residential places, of which 30 are newly created, in addition to 20 day care. Some services are also going to be incorporated, such as a therapeutic cup or the center will be provided with new spaces, such as kitchen, laundry and outdoor areas, which had been suppressed in the first project, approved in 2016, to lower costs.
Regarding the bidding budget, the project contemplates a price increase of 68% with respect to the 5 million euros assigned to the first one, approved seven years ago. In addition, the criteria included in the conditions include measures to avoid assigning the works to an abnormally low offer that makes it impossible to carry out the works for the contracted price. Something that already happened with the first project, awarded in 2018 and which, due to this reason, could not be executed.
