The Council of Tenerife awarded the installation of 50 new canopies at bus stops throughout the Island. The works will be carried out in 17 of the 31 municipalities in order to continue on the path of adapting the network and access to public transport. The Island Government Council approved this week the award of the contract for the supply of these new security and protection structures for users in fifty points of high demand for a global amount of 192,288 euros. The winning company will have a period of 10 months from the start to carry out the task.
Specificthe works will be carried out in the municipalities of Adeje, Arafo, El Tanque, Los Silos, San Juan de la Rambla and Santa Úrsula, where a canopy will be installed in each one; Buenavista del Norte, Candelaria, Guía de Isora, La Orotava and Tegueste, with two interventions, respectively; Arona, Granadilla de Abona, Puerto de la Cruz and Santa Cruz, with three new canopies in each municipality; five facilities in Tacoronte and 13 in La Laguna, the place with the highest incidence of planning, especially in the more rural areas. In addition, there will be four units that will remain available to be installed in the location designated by the Construction Project Management.
At the moment, the beneficiaries of the canopies are around 83% of the users, since not all the network of bus stops has them. With this action, it will be possible to increase and reach 87% of the total number of passengers. This is due to the fact that priority has been given to those stops with the largest number of users, as well as those that are close to infrastructures with special demand such as medical offices or schools.

Prefabricated canopies with a metal structure, glass side panels, a roof, steel seats with armrests, ischial supports and wastebaskets. It is the design scheme of the structures that will be added to the insular bus stop network. There are still quite a few where there is barely a sign with the profile of a bus.
