La Laguna reaches plenary session for the constitution of its City Council for the period 2023-2027 without the signing of a left-wing government pact, which seemed the most feasible to repeat after the electoral results of May 28. The candidates of Unidas se puede, Rubens Ascanio, and Drago Verdes Canarias, Alberto Rodríguez, conditioned this Friday their support for the investiture this Saturday of Luis Yeray Gutiérrez (PSOE) to repeat as mayor to before signing a government pact between the three forces. From the PSOE they did not want to make assessments in this regard and United sources confirmed to DIARIO DE AVISOS, late in the day, that the Socialist Party had informed them in the afternoon that they were not going to negotiate.
With this scenario, the investiture of Luis Yeray Gutiérrez as mayor in plenary this Saturday will be feasible thanks to the votes of his party, thus beginning the new term with a minority government of the PSOE, which does not imply that the negotiations for a possible government pact with the formations cannot continue after the constitution of the City Council.
Twenty-four hours after the plenary session, Unidas and Drago expressed the good harmony between the two formations during the negotiations and their willingness to reach an agreement with the PSOE for a left-wing government. However, “for some reason, we do not understand which one, because they did not want to explain it to us, they did not want to speak more than an agreement for the investiture, but it has to be both a program and a municipal project, how It is going to manage that agreement, and that, like all government pacts, establishes how that government is going to be built in the future. And that is what we are asking for and we know that it is viable”, affirmed Ascanio.
In this sense, Alberto Rodríguez added that “we are not going to give the Mayor’s Office to the PSOE under any circumstances”, since the citizens voted at the polls for “diversity within the forces of progress, and that diversity must be expressed through all levels, at the programmatic level, in specific government agreements with deadlines and in the teams”, he pointed out.
Therefore, he announced that “if there is no programmatic agreement, a government program with deadlines and teams that carry out these measures, tomorrow we will obviously not support the investiture of the PSOE.” “If there is no agreement, the vote will be for the candidacies that we have led in this campaign. That is what it touches ”, pointed out Ascanio.
The leader of Unidas can explain that, together with Drago Verdes, they have drawn up a proposed agreement of more than 250 points that they have transferred to the PSOE, and that “it is the basis but we cannot give a blank check if we do not know with whom The government is going to be formed, in what way and with what timetable”. “And so far, the answers we have received from the PSOE are very vague and do not go into the heart of the matter,” said Rodríguez, who denied that they had been asking for “armchairs” and attributed it to an attempt to “mud the negotiation.” .
Drago’s leader asked the PSOE to say “publicly” what is the alternative they are considering if there is no progress pact. “If what it is about is that there is a turn to the right of the PSOE, or an agreement of any kind with the right in the municipality, they know that they are going to have a very tough opposition,” he emphasized.
The confirmation of the celebration this Saturday of the Plenary session was waiting for the credentials of the councilors to arrive, after the Central Electoral Board rejected last Thursday the appeal presented by the PP for some Vox ballots. Received on Friday, the plenary session can be held as normal, being scheduled to start at 11:00. Of the total of 27 councilors that make up the City Council, 13 repeat and there will be 14 additions.
