He Government of the Canary Islands has approved the execution of the project ‘Tarajales Wind Farm’ in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona (Tenerife), which will have an installed capacity of 10.39 megawatts (MW).
The project is declared of general interest and will require modification of the affected planning. The Executive explains that “it will mean reducing the extra cost of power generation in the electrical systems of non-peninsular territories” and estimates that its commissioning will reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by 19,940 tons.
In addition, it will contribute to meeting the planning forecasts for the transmission grid, which sets a power target of 568.5 MW for the island’s electrical system by 2030.
The approximate investment planned for this wind farm will exceed 13.7 million euros and will generate 73 jobs in the construction phase and 21 jobs in the maintenance and operation phase.
The Government of the Canary Islands has ordered the removal of the incompatible planning for the execution of the project and, therefore, orders its modification. For this, the exceptionality of the procedure regulated in article 6 bis of Law 11/1997, of December 2, allows exempting certain projects of electrical installations that have been declared of general interest by the Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against climate change and territorial planning.
