La Laguna is the only one of the four large cities of the Canary Islands that, 24 hours after the plenary session for the constitution of the new city councils, has not yet announced a pact or government agreement for the incipient new mandate. PSOE, which won the elections on May 28 with 10 councillors; Unidas se puede, with two councilors, and Drago Verdes Canarias, with two others, have been in contact and negotiating ever since to study the possibility of repeating a possible left-wing pact in the municipality, which would give them the necessary majority of 14.
However, to date, they have not yet announced any type of government pact or programmatic agreement. And what’s more, Drago Verdes Canarias and Unidas may have called a press conference for this morning to “analyze the situation regarding the negotiations for the government agreement in La Laguna”, according to the statement, which has raised serious doubts. around the situation of these negotiations just 24 hours before the plenary session was held and, in addition, its conveners were only two of the political formations that were negotiating.
As DIARIO DE AVISOS has been able to learn, in the framework of the course these days of the negotiations of the programs of each party, Unidas se puede and Drago Verdes Canarias presented, last Wednesday, a new joint proposal of programmatic lines that have been being analyzed from the PSOE with the intention of being able to respond to them before the end of yesterday and, if the other two formations agreed, try to close the signing of a programmatic agreement today for tomorrow, without even talking about areas of government.
Although, after the announcement of the joint call by United and Drago, now the PSOE is also waiting to know the content of what they announce today.
minority mayor
With this situation, for the moment tomorrow the plenary session will be held for the constitution of the new Laguna City Council without a closed government agreement and with several open scenarios, depending on what Unidas se puede and Drago Verdes Canarias announce today regarding whether or not they will support the investiture of Luis Yeray Gutiérrez (PSOE) to repeat as mayor of La Laguna.
Thus, the situation could arise, and at this moment it seems the most plausible option, for Luis Yeray Gutiérrez to take office tomorrow as mayor in a minority, with which the PSOE would begin the term governing in the municipality in a minority until the end of define whether or not the progress agreement with Unidas se puede and Drago Verdes is reached.
It should be remembered that the numbers give in the municipality for another possible pact between the ten PSOE councilors and the eight of the Canary Islands Coalition, although in recent days, the PSOE has insisted that they were only negotiating with Unidas se puede y Drago Green.
The leader of Drago Verdes Canarias, Alberto Rodríguez, has expressed his willingness to be part of a progress pact in La Laguna, although he conditioned an agreement to include basic lines of his program, with deadlines, such as declaring all the municipality as a stressed area or an immediate moratorium on vacation rentals, among others.
