The Socialist Party (PSOE) and Unidas Sí Podemos (US) reached an agreement in principle on Monday to govern Los Silos for the next four years. At this time, they are immersed in the drafting of the document, in the design of the structure of the future government and in the distribution of responsibilities that each of the political formations will have.

Being the force with the most votes, the socialist candidate, Carmen Luz Baso, will become the next mayor of the municipality, while the head of the USP list, Andrés Joel Rodríguez, will in all probability be the first deputy mayor.

Carmen Luz Baso confirmed to this newspaper that the idea is that the six councilors, four from the PSOE and two from USP, have government areas “in order to move the municipality forward, which is small and requires a lot of work and area responsibility to promote the necessary policies”.

“It has taken us almost two weeks to reach an agreement because we have taken the negotiation seriously, analyzing the existing structural problems and the programmatic actions to solve them,” he added.

In this sense, he said that several meetings had been held “because USP is a new political force in the Corporation but it is progressive, like the PSOE, and the important thing is to give government stability to the municipality. In addition to a governance pact, we want to have an ethical agreement for a single government team”, he remarked.

For both parties, the rescue of the municipal swimming pools, whose concession expired in 2019 after 50 years due to the entry into force of the new Coastal Law and was not renewed on time, is one of the priorities for the new mandate.

Auditorium and health center

Added to this is the promotion of projects that are already underway such as the future auditorium and the new health center, which will allow a response to the new needs of the municipality, and citizen participation. “We want to have an annual assembly with all the residents, but not only to account for the government’s management, but to make them participate in the actions that are put in place and therefore it will be a backbone of the policy,” he said. .

Regarding water purification, one of the most controversial axes, the two formations committed themselves, according to Baso, “to work for a purification model in which 100% of the water is recycled so that it can be reused, that it is efficient technically, but it must also have legal feasibility and it must generate zero discharges into the sea”.

It should be remembered that the municipalities of the Isla Baja advocate natural purification while the Insular Water Council, dependent on the Cabildo de Tenerife, has been committed for years to a regional purification system.

As a representative of the political force that won on May 28, Carmen Luz Baso had the responsibility of forming a government. For this reason, on Monday she herself transferred to the acting mayor, Macarena Fuentes, and to the acting first deputy mayor, Raquel González, the principle of agreement reached with USP that will be ratified and made public in the coming days.
