The passage of storm Óscar has been a blessing for the south of Tenerife, where it dumped the largest amounts of rain, especially on the heights of San Miguel, Granadilla and Vilaflor de Chasna. In the latter municipality, 110 liters per square meter were collected, which has provided considerable relief for the chasnero field, just a few days before summer officially enters, a season that is especially feared in this area due to high temperatures and the risk of forest fires. .
“More than 100 liters fell in a soft, serene way, which has been very good in general, although perhaps not so much for some specific crops such as certain vines, because the harvest has been delayed a bit due to the cold weather, but the Rain is always welcome and everyone is very happy”, Agustina Beltrán, acting mayor of Vilaflor de Chasna, told DIARIO DE AVISOS yesterday, who will be re-elected next Saturday to govern for another four years with an absolute majority.
The chasnera councilor does not remember such intense rainfall in a month of June. “Years ago, in August, some showers fell, but in June, at the gates of summer, I don’t remember seeing it rain like this,” she said. She stressed that the falling water has given an unexpected break to the men and women of the countryside. “We are happy because it is the season for planting potatoes and it is not the same to face it with the drought that we were dragging through, than now that there is a bottom of water,” she explained.
Although the stormy front has prevented several irrigations with water from the ponds, the rainfall has not left such a mark on the reservoirs, because, as Beltrán pointed out, “for that it would have had to rain more days.” Regarding possible restrictions this summer, the mayoress considers them practically ruled out: “With the actions that have been carried out, consumption and losses have been controlled a lot.”
Precisely, the Cabildo confirmed yesterday that the Trevejos pond is at 75% of its capacity, with 207,538 cubic meters, which guarantees the supply of irrigation water, the Institution assured.
A rock detached by the rain affects the Tágara-Trevejos pipeline
The Cabildo is carrying out an emergency action since last Monday to repair the Tágara-Trevejos water transport pipeline, in Guía de Isora.
The acting Island Councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Javier Parrilla, explained that “the emergency of the works has been declared due to the importance of this pipeline for the municipality of Vilaflor and part of Adeje, Arona and San Miguel.” In addition, he announced that, according to the technical report, the repair work is expected to be completed in 15 days, given the difficulty of accessing the area.
The break affected a section of pipe eight meters long, some 500 meters from the southeast entrance of the Tágara tunnel, caused by the impact of a rock detached from the slope as a result of the latest rains.
