It is well known that in Güímar, politically speaking, anything is possible, and this has been the case since the beginning of this century, with unnatural pacts, such as those of the PP and PSOE. On this occasion, after the results of the elections on May 28, we return to the need for agreements, as the absolute majority did not register again. There was a clear winner, Luisi Castro, candidate of the Popular Party, with nine councilors, four more than those who currently govern, CC and PSOE, by this order of votes, with five councilors each. But neither the PP alone nor the sum of nationalists and socialists reach 11 to govern alone. That is why the votes of the two councilors elected by United Sí Podemos (USP) and Nueva Canarias are decisive.
Carlos Llarena (NC), former socialist candidate, has already confirmed that he will not give the PSOE a vote, so the only alternative left to the current pact is to get the vote of Nayra Caraballero, from USP, with whom they have already reunited, just as the mayor did with the PP, despite the fact that they are clear that they would not agree with the popular ones, nor would they agree with the nationalists, although they would agree with the PSOE.
It is so much the interest of Gustavo Pérez, CC candidate and acting mayor, not to agree with the Popular Party, as his party has asked him at the regional level (Fernando Clavijo has replaced Linares in those negotiations with the Populares), that even it would allow Airam Puerta, with fewer votes than him, to be the mayor and United Yes We Can lead areas such as Citizen Participation and Social Services, something that the purple ones dismissed on Monday night. Everything is pending an upcoming USP assembly, which would not be the first time that he agreed with CC, since he already did so in this mandate in Buenavista del Norte, with the result of losing the Mayor’s Office.
In spite of everything, in the PP they continue considering the possibility of governing as the most voted list and throughout the mandate to reach a pact with CC, depending on what happens in other municipalities, such as Granadilla.
