SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 14 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the area of Social Action, Citizen Participation and Diversity, and Radio ECCA have held a conference to promote citizen participation and social inclusion and equal opportunities on the island, especially for people with fewer economic resources and vulnerable groups, migrants, the elderly, gypsy people, disabilities and LGBTIQA+.
The acting CEO of Equality and Prevention of Gender Violence, Priscila de León, received representatives of the entities and organizations that work with these social groups today in the Noble Hall and stressed that the call has served to gather their demands and proposals to eradicate inequality of opportunities in different spheres, social, educational and labor.
At the meeting, the training actions and awareness campaigns promoted through Radio ECCA, with the insular collaboration, “to promote the development, training and participation of people in vulnerable situations, as a strategy for the fight against against social exclusion and access to culture and education for all citizens, with special attention to women, to promote their employability and empowerment”.
Priscila de León emphasized the need to raise awareness about the importance of achieving equal opportunities in access to participation for the entire population.
During the day, the project Social Initiatives for the active inclusion of citizens 2022, developed by Radio ECCA with the collaboration of the Cabildo de Tenerife, was discussed. Vanessa Santana, regional head of the Canary Islands delegations of Radio ECCA, stressed that its implementation responds to the need to raise awareness and provide the tools so that training and participation reaches all citizens.
Vanessa Santana explained that different lines of action have been carried out this course. On the one hand, 17 Roma women, between the ages of 17 and 40, completed regulated training through the ECCA system, also being trained in equality and citizen participation, in digital skills and self-confidence to help improve their employability conditions, promote their empowerment and inclusion in society.
A line of work was also carried out for the general population, through training in digital skills, citizen participation, equality and self-confidence, as well as awareness-raising and information actions to raise awareness about the limitations faced by the Roma women and vulnerable groups and encourage their participation in community life. “In total, 76 people have enrolled in 150 training actions, from all the regions, highlighting that 72.37% have been women,” she highlighted.
The day concluded with a delivery of diplomas to the people who have participated in this project.
