SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 13 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Attention Service for Women Victims of Violence, SAMVV 1-1-2, answered 1,279 calls in the Canary Islands in May, half a point less than in May last year, although 63% (807) were emergencies (danger imminent for the victim), 5 points more than the month of April.

Of the rest, 274 (21%) were information calls and 198 (15.5%) urgent calls.

These calls forced the mobilization of the emergency devices that the ICI maintains with the island councils on 181 occasions and 28 women and 18 minors who had to leave their homes to protect themselves from the abuser had to be given shelter.

Of the total number of aggressors, 47% were the couple and 27% the ex-partner, reports the Canarian Government in a note.

27% of the alerts were given by people who were not involved and accidentally witnessed the incident, in 42% of the cases the affected person called and in 4% the family.

Of the 1,395 calls received in April, 75 women had disabilities, half of them (35) mentally disabled, 5 intellectual, 16 organic physical and 14 motor physical.

Regarding age, 25 were minors (almost half of them, 12, were under 13 years of age); 258 were between 18 and 35 years old; 317, between 36 and 55 years old; 75 were between 56 and 75 years old and 7 were women older than 76 years.

Regarding the type of violence, 44% was physical violence and 3% physical violence with sexual assault; 44% was non-physical violence, 5% consultation. The rest were undefined violence and calls for coordination.

In addition, 6% of the women who requested help from 112 had a protection order.

The incidents forced the mobilization of 738 police resources and 56 health resources.

This telephone service, financed by the Canary Islands Institute for Equality (ICI), is provided from the operating rooms of the Emergency and Security Coordination Center, CECOES 1-1-2, throughout the territory of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, during the 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.
