The squat of Bajamar, in La Laguna, generated problems in the neighborhood for at least a decade. This is pointed out by Alejandro González, a neighbor who lived in the same block, located near the Neptuno Hotel, and whose story shows that the health situation in which he maintained his home and environment was not the most appropriate. This clashes with the version provided by the La Laguna City Council when asked about the situation of the woman, the problems in the area and the presence of a minor.
Gonzalez explains that shared a building with the woman of Belgian origin around 2012, and affirms that some coexistence problems caused by her were already common, around whom a case revolves that has had national repercussions in recent days, once it was known that she sold the house and remained there illegally.
The neighbor with whom this newspaper has spoken fundamentally describes dirt problems and debris thrown from the balcony. It specifies that the apartment that belonged to the aforementioned woman – and that today belongs to José Miguel Cruz and Rosario Santana, despite the fact that they cannot use it – is at a height and that from there he threw different types of waste towards the cliff and the coastal zone below.
I was throwing waste from the balcony
The main people affected, says González, were the neighbors from the same block who lived on the lower floors. In particular, the witness to those events indicates that he frequently threw used toilet paper from the building. Consequently, this type of behavior led to a deterioration of coexistence in the building.
Alejandro González went so far as to address the woman on some occasion to try to tackle the problem, but he did not get any other answer that was not long and evasive after which nothing was solved.
All of the above is known as a result of the nightmare suffered by José Miguel Cruz and Rosario Santana, who since the end of 2019 they have been waiting to enter the house they bought from the aforementioned woman, who, apparently, in recent days left the Island and sold the house to other squats It cost Cruz and Santana 140,000 euros and they pay a 650-euro monthly mortgage despite the fact that they cannot access it, at the same time that they have to take care of the community, light and utility bills. As if that were not enough, an additional rental in Santa Cruz is added to the above to have a roof to live.
No administrative coverage
Cruz regrets that he has felt “forsaken by the Administration.” Specifically, he mentions the inaction that you have perceived from the Social Services of the City Council of La Laguna, in whose knowledge he put that the squat has been accompanied by a foreign minor in permanent foster care and that he has not had adequate living conditions due to the state of the home and other circumstances.
Last Thursday, official sources of Social Welfare of the Laguna City Council limited themselves to exposing what they have done follow-ups and reports on the situation of the minor and that the woman asked for the minimum vital income and information about other aid. They indicated that the municipal Social Services clarified that they are not in charge of granting the minimum vital income and that they could only help her to apply to the State Government.
