SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE/MADRID, June 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Canary Islands airports have registered 19,838,342 passengers so far this year, exceeding by 20.4% the accumulated data from January to May 2022, according to data made public this Monday by Aena.

Of the number of travelers on commercial flights, 11,967,352 did so on international flights (20.7% more than the accumulated figure for 2022) and 7,642,792 did so on domestic flights (19.9% ​​more than last year). .

Thus, until May, 177,247 aircraft movements were managed, reflecting an increase of 10.9% over the same accumulated period of 2022 and 12,599 tons of merchandise were transported, 6.4% less compared to the same months of 2022.

In the month of May alone, the Canary Islands airports transported 3,623,218 passengers, thus exceeding the data for the same month of 2022 by 10.4%.

Of the total number of travelers registered in May, 3,598,879 corresponded to passengers on commercial flights, of which 1,938,723 traveled on international flights (which is 9.4% more than in May 2022) and 1,660,156 they did so in nationals (11.6% more than last year).

In May, 33,792 aircraft movements were managed, 6.2% more than in 2022. In addition, 2,441 tons of merchandise were transported, which represents 8% less than in May 2022.

The Gran Canaria airport registered the highest number of passengers in the fifth month of the year with 998,304, which represents 10.7% more than in May 2022.

They are followed by Tenerife Sur Airport, which with 868,770 passengers registers an increase of 12.1% over 2022; César Manrique-Lanzarote, with 644,858 (+11.2%); Tenerife North-City of La Laguna, with 519,878 (+10%); Fuerteventura, with 450,757 (+8.8%); La Palma, with 107,116 (-2.9%), El Hierro, with 24,186 (+10.9%) and La Gomera, with 9,349 passengers, where the highest percentage growth was recorded with an increase of 32.4% compared to the same month of 2022.

NATIONAL DATA

In the country as a whole, more than 102.942 million passengers have passed through the airports of the Aena network between January and May 2023, which represents an increase of 27.7% compared to the figures for 2022 and 2.3 % compared to 2019.

In this same period, a total of 910,806 aircraft movements (+12.2%) were registered and 324,492 tons of merchandise were transported, which is 2.7% more than in the same period of 2022.

In the month of May alone, passengers who used Aena airports amounted to 25,476,066, 14.4% more than in the same month last year and 3.4% more than in 2019, a record year for air traffic. May is the fifth consecutive month in which the data from four years ago is exceeded.

In addition, in May 2023, 215,257 aircraft movements were managed, which means exceeding the data for 2022 by 3.1%; and 87,583 tons of merchandise were moved, 5.5% more compared to May last year.

Of the total number of travelers registered in May, 25,417,978 corresponded to commercial passengers. Of these, 17,335,127 traveled on international flights, 14.9% more than in May 2022, while 8,082,851 did so on domestic flights, 13.5% more than in the same month last year.
