The Real Club Naútico de Gran Canaria took the gold and silver medals in the Canary Islands Championship for teams of the Class Optimist. The Real Club Náutico de Tenerife completed the podium by winning the bronze medal.
The championship was organized by the Royal Canarian Sailing Federation at its facilities at the sports dock in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Seven teams from Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Lanzarote participated, made up of a total of 28 sailors, 14 boys and 14 girls.
The two RC Naútico GC teams (gold and silver) qualify to represent the Canary Islands in the Spanish Championship of the Optimist Class for autonomous teams, which will take place in Murcia between June 22 and 25.
The lack of wind this weekend in the bay of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has conditioned the regatta and has prevented the completion of the program made up of a round-robin (round robin league) out of 7 flights (matches), semifinals and final. Yesterday Saturday it was only possible to celebrate a flight and today another four were completed. With these results the final classification has been elaborated.
Each club could present a maximum of two teams and all of them had to be made up of four athletes (two boys and two girls).. The royal nautical clubs of Gran Canaria and Arrecife presented two teams each, and the Real Club Náutico de Tenerife, Club de Mar Radazul and Club Marítimo Varadero, one formation each.
