Residents of Tacoronte demand to bury the TF-5 highway

Most of the Tacoronte neighborhood groups have formulated a joint allegation against the project to expand the third lane of the TF-5 highwaycoinciding with the end of the public exhibition period opened by the Ministry of Public Works of the Government of the Canary Islands.

In the common document, the groups demand a different project from the one that has been presented, since they consider that the action is oversized and that it would have great consequences for the rest of the communications and connections in the municipality. The residents point out in the letter their disagreement with the very call for allegations of the project, “formulated in the middle of the electoral campaign and whose resolution would correspond to the acting Government, both at the local, insular, and regional levels”, and propose that “it be expanded in two more months this period and that we be given the opportunity to discuss the consequences of this project with the new heads of the institutions”.

In the text signed by the neighborhood leaders, seven measures are proposed, among which it stands out that the future road “go underground as it passes through the municipality, as in La Laguna and El Sauzal, and that the approach of its execution does not continue condemning us to the isolation”.

In this sense, they have proposed that the highway does not continue depredating the territory, “because in housing conditions we suffer 60% of all the expropriations of the project, of which 40% will suffer only the neighborhood of La Luz”, they warned. In a meeting held this week in the plenary hall, the residents who were summoned by the associations of the neighborhoods of La Luz, Agua García and Camino de la Cuesta, expressed their disagreement with those responsible for the project, “because they have forgotten by Tacoronte”.
Another of the proposals is the protection of agricultural land and the wooded area of El Reventón, due to its high botanical interest, its antiquity and history, considered as a unique forest by the Cabildo and which is currently the subject of a study by from experts about their values.

The request to extend the period of allegations by two more months is due to the fact that the new political leaders with powers in this matter have not yet taken office and demand that “as long as the project is not reformed and until the works begin, the reversible lane towards Santa Cruz, as an immediate solution to traffic jams”.

They explain that the decision to remove the project has been hasty, “because, in addition to coinciding with the electoral campaign, it has not been taken into account to start up the reversible lane or the approval of the Teleworking law, which will mean that three days a week the traffic will be alleviated a lot”, they indicate.

The neighborhood groups demand “to leave the third lane pending and look for new solutions” that tend to better connectivity and to leave the private car because they question this alternative, “since, from Los Rodeos, at rush hour or when there is any incident, it collapses, as in the TF-1 from Candelaria, where every weekday there are queues after queues”.
