The National Police have arrested two men in Santa Cruz de Tenerife for touching two women and trying to kiss them against their will. One of the cases occurred on public roads and in the other, on a ferry.
Those arrested, aged 39 and 52, are being investigated as alleged perpetrators of two crimes of sexual assault, detail sources from the Provincial Police Station.
In one of the cases, the victim was walking through the El Sobradillo neighborhood when a car suddenly stopped. The driver, whom the woman knew by sight from frequenting a neighborhood cafeteria, addressed her obscenely, tried to kiss her and touched her body against her will.
The woman was able to get away from her attacker and go home. From there she, accompanied by her relatives, went to the hospital to be treated and, later, to the National Police station to report the facts.
In the other case, a man harassed a young woman on a ferry. The man, by force of her and while he addressed her with rude phrases, touched her and tried to take her to her cabin.
The woman was able to give him the slip and request help from the crew, who reported the facts to the National Police.
Investigators from the Family and Women’s Care Unit (UFAM) of the National Police proceeded to carry out the procedures to identify and arrest these two men and bring them to justice.
The National Police, a pioneer in Spain in specialized care for women victims of crimes of a sexual nature with the creation of the Women’s Care Services in 1986, recalls that sexual violence is behavior in which one person forces another to wear engage in unwanted sexual behavior.
