SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 6 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Government of the Canary Islands has awarded the distinctions of the Ecological School Gardens contest corresponding to the 2022-23 academic year to eleven centers on the islands. This is an initiative of the General Directorate for Planning, Innovation and Quality of the Ministry of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports.
On this occasion, the work of the CEIP Chano Sánchez, Elvira Vaquero and Juan Arencibia Sosa (Gran Canaria) and Montaña Pelada and La Montañeta (Tenerife), and the IES Viera y Clavijo and Santa Úrsula (Tenerife) and Pérez Galdós have been recognized. , Pablo Montesino and José Arencibia Gil (Gran Canaria). In addition, the CEE Puerto Del Rosario (Fuerteventura) has obtained distinction, in the modality of Enclave Classrooms and Special Education Centers.
The educational action pursues, among other objectives, promoting the acquisition of attitudes and habits aimed at promoting and valuing environmental health, the achievement of a healthy and responsible diet through knowledge of the products that are consumed, their origin and their culinary possibilities. , as well as using the ecological school gardens and garden areas as outdoor classrooms for learning different areas or subjects.
Likewise, it seeks to promote contact and respect for nature through the promotion of the cultivation of native products, which imply the development of sustainable and healthy living habits, and the recognition of the educational work of teachers and good practices that promote environmental education and sustainability.
When selecting the most outstanding projects, the jury took into account the adaptation of the orchard to the environment, the optimization of resources (irrigation systems, soil and fertilizers, among others), garden areas, waste management (composting) , the use of reused materials and signage with the name of the species
