SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 2 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The regional coordinator of Izquierda Unida (IU) in the Canary Islands, Luisa Tamayo, has branded this Friday as “generous” the announcement of the Minister of Consumption, Alberto Garzón, not to stand for the General Elections and dedicate himself to strengthening the party.
In statements to Europa Press, he points out that they are still “assimilating” it but at the same time he understands that “it is not traumatic news” because at IU they are “accustomed” to practicing a culture of “less leadership and more politics” where the ” ideas” to “people”.
He has also pointed out that the left is now in the process of “constructing” a space “to the left of the PSOE” and now the organizations “have to play intelligently” to set up good teams of candidates and not only for the elections of July but for the next four years.
Tamayo indicates that “it is important that people get excited about programs and projects that are beneficial” for citizens and that “does not go through a face” even though there is some “handicap” to transfer ideas such as the scarce presence of “representatives visible”.
The organization in the Canary Islands ratified on Thursday night its support for the Sumar platform and Tamayo has made it clear that no one “should be an obstacle” for there to be candidacies for Congress and the Senate.
Regarding the option of Alberto Rodríguez (Drago Verdes Canarias) leading the list for the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, he has indicated that “you have to see what he wants”, although he has already shown a predisposition, making it clear that Sumar will take into account what what the territories think and therefore, there will be “Canarian obedience”.
“We are about to work on a unitary candidacy and not be an obstacle, we will work with all the organizations,” he stressed.
