SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 3 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Canary Islands Coalition and the Popular Party have signed today Saturday the Governance Agreement for the Stability and Momentum of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which will make, once again, the nationalist José Manuel Bermúdez mayor of the capital of Tenerife and the popular Carlos Tarife, first Deputy mayor.

This agreement supposes the continuity of the one signed on June 26, 2020 by nationalists and popular, after the presentation of a motion of censure against the socialist Patricia Hernández, who despite winning these last elections, has not been able to form a majority.

After signing the agreement, José Manuel Bermúdez stressed that it is the “best deal for and for Santa Cruz de Tenerife”. He said that CC and PP have guaranteed stability and provided certainty and moderation in the City Council, adding that this government pact will allow “giving a new impetus to the city.”

José Manuel Bermúdez hoped that this agreement between the Canary Islands Coalition and the Popular Party would also have a projection in other institutions such as the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo de Tenerife because, according to what he stated, “we intend to recover the investment that was denied to us by of the Socialist Party”.

Likewise, he wanted to make it clear that it is not among his plans, “neither in the short, nor in the medium, nor in the long term” to leave the City Council in the next four years, after it was suggested that he could run in the next general elections as head of list of Canarian Coalition to Congress.

In any case, he did point out that if for some extraordinary reason he had to leave the Mayor’s Office, he will have to resort to the pact table so that the appropriate political decisions are made, although he reiterated that it is not in his plans to leave the Mayor’s Office.

For his part, Carlos Tarife wanted to recall that he already said in the campaign that the PP was not going to agree with the left in Santa Cruz, which has prevented an agreement with the PSOE, which obtained ten councillors. In addition, he understands that in recent years many policies have been promoted by the government group and he hopes that, from now on, other administrations will have more complicity with the pending issues in the city.

Carlos Tarife also highlighted that we are facing a “solid” agreement based on seven axes in which the Popular Party will manage the following areas: Environmental Sustainability and Public Services, Animal Welfare, Strategic Planning, Urbanism, Development Society, Organization Autonomous Department of Culture and the Salud-La Salle and Ofra-Costa Sur districts.
