This morning, Saturday, the Canary Islands Coalition and the Popular Party They have sealed the government pact which makes José Manuel Bermúdez mayor of Santa Cruz for the fourth time in the last 12 years. “The best pact for and by Santa Cruz” as expressed by Bermúdez.

Before addressing the media, one by one, the 14 councilors signed the document that includes the seven programmatic lines on which the 2023-2027 mandate will revolve. The last signature closed with a big applause.

The document signed during the morning includes the following points:

1 – A dynamic city with opportunities. “Santa Cruz de Tenerife must continue to be a city of investment and business opportunities, maintaining a low tax burden that favors economic activity and alleviates family economies in times of crisis. It contemplates the empowerment of the European Funds Office, the implementation of new measures of direct support for entrepreneurship, and the promotion of internal consumption by expanding cultural and leisure revitalization programs.

2.- The greatest urban expansion. “It will be committed to accelerating the dismantling of the Refinery, and the opening of a participatory process to define the strategic use of this historic urban expansion of the city to the South. Work will be done on the approval of the new General Urban Planning Plan, as an essential tool for economic development and employment, the culmination of partial and special planning, and the management of action units for the creation of public housing”.

3.- The value of our heritage. “The recovery of historic buildings
it is an unstoppable process in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. We have to incorporate
our cultural, leisure and tourist offer the activity of buildings such as the Temple
Masonic, Viera y Clavijo Cultural Park, Palacio de Carta, the old building
of Applied Arts, or the Marqués de Villasegura building. The culmination of this
ambitious program will enhance our historical and artistic heritage, improve
the quality of life in the city and will reinforce the role of Santa Cruz as a destination
quality tourism.

4.- The commitment to sustainability. “Santa Cruz de Tenerife has undertaken
a boost to policies related to sustainability and the environment. The
capital houses a Biosphere Reserve (Anaga) and intends to continue reducing the
CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, through, among other projects, the execution of
works on the coast that culminate zero discharge in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the
incorporation of sustainable urban transport, greater energy efficiency
of the municipal housing park, the elimination of part of the road traffic in the
center of the city and the dismantling of the refinery, which will allow the expansion of
green areas of the capital.

5.- With those who need it most. “We have risen to all-time highs
aid to vulnerable families, we have managed to reduce unemployment to figures
of the pandemic, and the challenge now is to maintain this drop in unemployment,
increasing the number of contracts (which already account for more than a third of the total
de la Isla) and generating training and employment opportunities for those who have the most difficulties accessing the labor market. Care for children and the elderly will continue to be the focus of our social policy programs”.

6.- The recovery of the coast. “For years we have maintained a goal
inalienable, which consists of the gradual recovery of the coastline of the capital. The
recovery of the Valleseco beach, the project for the outer area of the
Palmetum, the rehabilitation and expansion of the Añaza bathing area, the drive to
the future marina of Santa Cruz, and complete the urban modification of the scope of
Las Teresitas Beach, are part of these initiatives that bring us closer to said objectives”.

7.- Quality of life. “The citizens of the capital must feel that they have access to the same services, regardless of where they live. The commitment is to continue with the process of rehabilitation of public housing, playgrounds, sports fields and street resurfacing. Both political formations are committed to prioritizing in their respective fields of action to continue with the improvement of the facilities in the neighborhoods of the capital”.
