CC and PP end 28 years of PSOE hegemony in Guía de Isora

The Canary Islands Coalition and the Popular Party signed yesterday in Guía de Isora their first agreement in the South, which will put an end to 28 years of socialist mandates and which will make the nationalist Ana Dorta mayoress on the 17th and the popular Carlos Álvarez first lieutenant of mayor. Although the electoral board of the socialist Josefa Mesa was the most voted last Sunday, achieving 10 councilors, the alliance between CC (seven) and PP (four) adds one more.

After confirming the pact, both CC and PP announced that they will continue advancing in the coming dates in the agreement and in the formation of the new municipal government, “as a team, from coordination and transparency and always thinking of the residents of Guía de Isora”. Both parties stress that the first objective will be to “give stability to the municipal government” and announce a “change in the style and way of governing the municipality” to “improve the well-being” of the citizenry.

“Seal the deal today [por ayer] with the Popular Party obeys solely and exclusively to the will of the Isoranos and Isoranas, who have voted for change and what we have agreed is to give him that change that they have requested at the polls, Ana Dorta told this newspaper, who referred to the pact as that of “stability”, in which “the only obedience is Guía de Isora”.

For his part, Carlos Álvarez thanked the residents for the support obtained at the polls, when the Popular Party went from two to four councilors (almost 800 votes more than in 2019), which he considered “key to taking away the absolute majority of the PSOE” . The next Isorano first deputy mayor stressed that “working for our people is the greatest joy and the most exciting challenge that we can take on.”

It must be remembered that Guía de Isora is one of the four municipalities in the south of Tenerife that did not obtain an absolute majority last Sunday, forcing the political forces to agree. With the future already clarified in the Isorano Consistory, all attention is now focused on Arona, the municipality with the largest population in the South where a government alliance between the Popular Party, the Canary Islands Coalition and Más Por Arona is practically closed; Granadilla de Abona, a municipality in which the negotiations are going somewhat slower, and Arico, where the swords are still held high.
