The acting mayor of Puerto de la Cruz and winner of the elections last 28M, Marco González (PSOE)acknowledges in statements to EL DÍA that his priority is to try to reissue the pact he had in the past term with Porto Citizen Assembly (ACP)although with other conditions, since the Socialists have gone from 8 to 10 councilors, to one with an absolute majority, and the party that leads David Hernandez dropped from 3 to 2. For the moment, the Socialists they will try to renegotiate the 2019-2023 mandate agreement before exploring alternative paths with CC, which has two councillors, or, much more unlikely, with the PP and its seven councilors.
Marco Gonzalez He acknowledges that the formal negotiations “have not started,” they spoke on election night, but the negotiating process will start shortly. “I am clear that where I should start is with my current government partners, who have helped me to consolidate and project this model of Puerto de la Cruz. That will be my first path”confirms the socialist president.
For the acting mayor of the tourist city, “now exploring other ways is not, for the moment, in my head.” However, it makes it clear that “The situation is different from that of 2019”since his party has just grown by almost 1,100 votes (45.65% of the total) and ACP has lost 286 supports (down from 13.38% to 11.46%).
The negotiation of the pacts in the rest of the northern municipalities where there are no absolute majorities is in a phase very preliminary, although in some cases cards and keys are already being placed on the table. Below are the main developments in six other locations that are still without a defined government.
tacoronte
The first contacts have already begun between the seven political formations with municipal representation, but with an eye on Vox’s claim for invalid votes, since it could enter the Corporation and alter the current numbers. The PP sees any agreement “still far away”; CC is waiting for the 28M results to be confirmed; the PSOE has begun to meet with different political formations to “seek stability in the City Council”, and NC and SSP are waiting. C’s and Somos Tacoronte are also awaiting official calls to start discussing proposals.
San Juan de la Rambla
The reissue of the pact between Canarian Coalition and PSOE gets complicated. The first contacts have made it clear that Nationalists and Socialists go for the Mayor’s Office, so AUP-SSP becomes the most desired partner for both formations. A PSOE-AUP-SSP government would have an absolute majority, but the CC would need the AUP-SSP and also the support of the PP or NC. Anything is possible, even for the PSOE and CC to reach an agreement. The nationalists do not rule out anything.
the guancha
María José García, the only mayor of the PSOE, has already had the first contact with the PP and CC. This Friday began a second round of meetings. For now, there are no favorites or priorities for the socialist councilor. There is a 50% chance of a PP-PSOE government and a 50% chance of it being a CC-PSOE.
Icod of the Wines
Javier Sierra (Aicod) won the elections and hopes to start talks with the PP of Cory Yanes, at the same time that he sees a CC-PP agreement as “very difficult”. He is convinced that “Icod has voted for change and the result is clear. The opportunity that Francis González (CC) had after the motion of no confidence has been wasted”. Cory Yanes has broken his silence to show his happiness for the results of 28M, when the PP went from 1 to 4 councilors “with a very austere campaign and with much criticism and aggressiveness from CC. In less than a month and a half, and with very few resources and little media visibility, we have the results we have”. The popular candidate announces that the negotiation with Aicod “will begin next week” because they are the force with the most votes. Surprisingly, Yanes does not close the door to sit with Canarian Coalitionbut wonders: “Will the Canary Coalition be willing to sit with me?”. Yanes warns that he left CC to “not be complicit with my silence in the mismanagement of Francis Gonzalez (CC) in Icod”. In case there was any doubt, the former CC island councilor spoke very clearly: “I do not agree with the management of Francis González (CC) in Icod and the people have spoken, but I can sit down and talk with CC, if they are willing in CC”. He rules out that the PP is going to impose cascading pacts in Icod: “Nobody has told us anything about it and we understand that our position is very clear from minute one.” Cory Yanes is an independent on the PP list, so a party imposition would clash with this condition and would open the door to a break.
garachico
The situation is very similar to that of La Guancha. The PSOE, led by Yazmina Luis, has the two councilors who give the key to government in the Villa and Puerto. For now, José Heriberto González (CC) and Ramón Miranda (A’Gara) start with the same options to govern together with the Socialists.
The Silos
The PSOE has already sat down to talk with United Yes We Can and the PP, and the conversation with CC is pending next Monday. They have talked about government programs and Carmen Luz Baso He wants to listen to the three agreement alternatives before decanting. The PSOE-Podemos progressive pact seems the most viable option, but from the purple formation they recognize that “things are going slowly.”
