Checkmate 28 years in a row of socialist governments in Guía de Isora

checkmate of Canarian Coalition and Partido Popular after 28 years of socialist rule in the Tenerife municipality of Guía de Isora. The Isoran nationalists and conservatives are already in advanced negotiations to form a government, awaiting the support of the regional leadership of the parties. Both formations (CC with 7 councilors and PP with 4) add up to 14 councilors after the municipal elections last Sunday, with which they have an absolute majority assured.

This drastic turnaround has been possible due to the good results of the nationalists and popular ones but, above all, due to the loss of the absolute majority of the socialist Josefa Mesa, the still acting mayor, by only one councilor, remaining at 10. Waiting After the confirmation, in Guía de Isora they already take for granted the change in the City Council, which will go on to lead the number one on the Canary Islands Coalition list, Ana Dorta.

Prudently waiting for the negotiation to bear fruit, Dorta limits himself to ensuring that “the Isorans have voted for the change.” “We already perceived in the campaign that the residents wanted a change in municipal policies. And this feeling has been confirmed at the polls. Now we are working so that this change can be possible and suppose a new era for the municipality”, the nationalist candidate qualified.

Although it may not seem like it, Guía de Isora is an important municipality in the board island. It already has more than 20,000 inhabitants, houses hotels of great value for the Tenerife accommodation plant and has been a stronghold of the Canarian PSOE for three decades, where he was mayor for 24 years Peter Martintoday acting president of the Cabildo de Tenerife. Also from Guía de Isora comes Héctor Gómez, who was this legislature spokesman for the PSOE in the Congress of Deputies and currently Minister of Tourism and Commerce of the Government of Pedro Sanchez. And the one who is still mayor, Josefa Mesa, is also president of the PSOE of Tenerife. But this idyll with those of the rose is closer to coming to an end after the 28M.

«There are many coincidences between the approaches of my party, Coalición Canaria, and those of the PP. For example, we agree that one of the priorities of Guía de Isora is to open the residence for the elderly at once»said Ana Dorta, who acknowledged that yesterday she officially began negotiations with the popular to forge that “change” that, she says, requires “a majority of residents.”

in the first elections After the Franco dictatorship, power was seized by Pedro Reyes, who was mayor representing different formations: UCD in the 1979-1983 term, Popular Coalition (Popular Alliance-PDP and Liberal Party) between 1983 and 1987, and ATI in 1987. to 1989 and from 1991 and 1995. Then came the 24 years in a row in the Mayor’s Office of Pedro Martín and Josefa Mesa in the 2019-2023 term. But CC and PP once again regain support in Guía de Isora. Your agreement is imminent.
