The goal is for the agreement to be “practically closed” by the end of next week and for the investiture to be in the second week of July
SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 1 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Canary Islands Coalition (CC) and the Popular Party (PP) have held this Thursday the first meeting of the negotiating commissions in which they have verified the “will” to close a government agreement in the archipelago.
This was stated to the journalists David Toledo and José Miguel Barragán, members of the commission, who have recognized that once the agreement is reached, it will be opened to the support of the Herreña de Independientes Group (AHI), which has a seat, and the Socialist Group Gomera (ASG), with three seats, in such a way that an absolute majority of 38 deputies in Parliament would be reached.
Both formations have begun to work on the basis of a program with nine strategic axes and also try to extend the pact to other institutions on the islands whenever possible, although they still maintain open contacts with the PSOE.
The bases of the future Government program include guaranteeing the sustainability of the well-being of the population, putting people as a reference point; education as the basis for social and economic progress and job creation; a fiscal policy that encourages economic activity and that promotes the REF; a “fair and progressive tax policy” that helps lower the tax burden; the strengthening of cultural and sports policies; guarantee sustainability and territorial and energy planning; promote equality as a horizontal policy; promote self-government and the development of the Statute of Autonomy and modernize the administration to make it “more agile, transparent and simplified”.
Barragán has indicated that they work with the “logic” that Fernando Clavijo (CC) is the president and Manuel Domínguez (PP) the vice-president and trusts, given the proximity of the General Elections, that the agreement will be “practically closed” to end of next week or beginning of the next.
In fact, next Monday or Tuesday there will be a second meeting of the negotiating committees on the island of Gran Canaria.
He has pointed out that there is already a pre-electoral agreement with AHI to support an investiture of Clavijo and regarding ASG there is a predisposition to listen to them and it would be debated later if they are integrated into the future Executive or only a parliamentary pact is signed.
However, Poli Suárez, spokesman for the PP negotiating commission, has warned that if the PP finally obtains one more seat for the island of Lanzarote to the detriment of NC –since the ballot is still open– “things can change” and the support of ASG will not be necessary. “It is a good question for which I have no answer,” Barragán acknowledged.
Regarding the calendar of a possible investiture, he has shown his desire that “it be the same” as in 2019, with the constitution of Parliament on June 27, that there be a “quick” consultation process and the plenary session be held in the week that it starts on July 10 so that it is not affected “by the pure and simple campaign” of the Generals.
FIRST PROGRAM AND THEN AREAS AND STRUCTURE
Both Barragán and Suárez have insisted that there has not yet been talk of the distribution of areas or the structure of the Government, only of programmatic principles, nor has the future Parliamentary Bureau been defined nor who will hold the Presidency.
Suárez has confessed to journalists that the PP is “satisfied” with the first contact because the main lines of the ‘Plan to Govern’ presented by the popular campaigners are included and he did not want to talk about a “cascading pact” because “Each municipality has a different situation.”
Regarding the Cabildo de Tenerife and the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, Barragán has commented that the negotiation is still “not on the table” while Suárez has recognized that in politics “anything can happen”, in reference to a possible presidency of the insular corporation by the PP, as the insular president, Emilio Navarro, has publicly expressed.
“The insular management is coordinated with the regional management and the will is to make agreements with CC where we add”, he added.
