The left-wing forces of La Laguna have initiated the first contacts for that possible progressive pact that allows them to obtain the necessary majority of 14 councilors to govern in the municipality, after the electoral results registered last Sunday night. Thus, the PSOE of La Laguna, led by the current mayor and candidate for re-election, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, became the force with the most votes in the municipality, achieving 10 councilors, three more than in the 2019 elections, but would need to add with the two councilors achieved by Unidas se puede, government partner in the current term, and the other two achieved by Drago Verdes Canarias, from Alberto Rodríguez, who enters the City Council.

The local government would thus repeat a progress pact such as the one reached in this term that is ending, between PSOE, Unidas se puede and Avante.

Luis Yeray Gutiérrez affirmed yesterday, in this regard: “We will have time in the next few days to talk about the program and the political project of the PSOE and the formations that are on the left.” The candidate of Unidas se puede, Rubens Ascanio, recognized, on his side, that “some contacts” had already been made yesterday with both the PSOE and Drago Verdes. “The most probable and coherent scenario is the progress pact. The other option would be a PSOE-CC pact or a rather unnatural pact, in which left-wing councilors support a pact where Vox is. And I understand that these two scenarios would be very difficult for the citizens to understand and the only one that remains with a certain consistency with the result of the elections is the progress pact, ”he said.

In this sense, Ascanio indicated that he understands that “there will be a height of vision by all parties when it comes to building a coherent and stable government in the municipality.”

Meanwhile, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez yesterday appreciated the result obtained by the PSOE in the municipality: “The citizens have said at the polls that they mostly support the government of progress in the municipality and these are the best results of the PSOE in La Laguna in 25 years” . And he thanked those who have accompanied him in the campaign and those who “during the last four years have shown that another way of governing is possible.”

Rubens Ascanio admitted that the result of Unidas se puede “was not as expected”, losing three councilors, but he thanked the support of almost 5,300 residents. He explained that, within the left, “obviously governing with a mayor from another formation always penalizes”, and that the presence of Drago Verdes “has divided the result”. Now, he indicated, “the citizen assembly will meet and there we will make decisions and make self-criticism.”

For his part, Alberto Rodríguez, from Drago Verdes, commented on his social networks that “this is just beginning”, stressing that they are starting “a path that has no turning back” and thanked them for their support.

The CC candidate, Jonathan Domínguez, also thanked the residents’ votes and the work of his team on social networks “which has allowed us to maintain an important representation of 8 councilors”, one less than in 2019, becoming the second force most voted. “Each CC vote will be used exclusively to defend La Laguna,” he said. From the PP, third force with three councilors, one more than in 2019, her candidate, Ana Zurita, yesterday showed her satisfaction with this increase. “We were very little away from achieving the fourth,” she said. “We are analyzing whether it can be recovered, but it is complicated,” she said. Zurita acknowledged that she “expected better results”, and believes that the emergence of Vox, which opens in the City Council with two councillors, has “penalized a little” the PP. In any case, she acknowledged that “for now they do not add up to CC, which was expected.” “We must add to this national increase of the PP and, even if we remain in the opposition, continue to strengthen the party,” she added.
