Lope Afonso, insular coordinator of the Popular Party and since last Sunday elected councilor in the Cabildo de Tenerife, downplayed yesterday the importance of the call for advance of the elections general for next July 23, as announced yesterday by the president of the Government of Spain, the socialist Pedro Sánchez. Afonso assured that he was “very focused” on opening “from today (yesterday) the dialogue” and the conversations “that are necessary” with the aim of achieving a “stable, solid and reliable” government for the Island.
Afonso once again assessed the results obtained by the candidacy he leads as “historic” –8 directors, 4 more than in 2019– and stated that he felt “satisfaction and responsibility”. Satisfaction because “we are the party that grows the most by far.” Responsibility because “we feel trustworthy of many Tenerife as the alternative of change they want for the Island.” The PP positions itself as a “government party capable of articulating solid alternatives.” Afonso underlines: “We are where we wanted to be and grateful for the trust after intense but full work on the electoral campaign.”
Lope Afonso details: “We are going to focus on assessing the most convenient scenario for the Island and the one that can promote greater stability.” With “a clear roadmap that does not attend to the partisan interest of each moment.” Bet on “conversations whose clear objective is to have a serious and solid island government in Tenerife.” She concludes: “Always with a cool head and objectivity to do what is best for the general interest of Tenerife and the people of Tenerife.”
